Hi, I'm trying to record a song from my mono to cubase: i succeed in recording all the 6 tracks on 1 midi track in cubase, but is it possible to split the tracks and record each track of the mono on a separate one in cubase? if yes how? tHX;

this is a silly question, but im new to this .... how do you connect the mono machine to cubase in the first place? I've connect the midi out cables to my joystick port but i dont know how to then get cubase to record. Make sure the MM midi OUT port is connected to the cable MIDI IN, and vice versa. Create a MIDI track. In that midi track you need to select the Input your MM is connected to. Like Soudblaster or MP401 Midi.... sometimes onboard midi have weird names, you'll have to figure it out. This will allow you to record the midi sent from MM. Set the output to your device as well for it to be able to playback what you record.

On simpler soundcards the joystick port acts as midi in/out, I think this is what Jared is refering to. /Mikael Robert Krueger wrote: > Jared Telling wrote: > >>this is a silly question, but im new to this .... how do you connect the >>mono machine to cubase in the first place? I wanted to ensure that he had them properly connected to his monomachine, cable out to MM in, and reverse for the other connection.

I must have missed the words "joystick PORT" in there :-)

hi there - thanks for the feedback... i feel kinda stupid about this, but i guess you have to start somewhere. basically I'm looking to use cubase so i can add drums etc...and synch it with my mm. I somewhat bewildered by it all and I'm not really sure where to start, perhaps a recommended book or site would be good. I had the midi in cable connected to the midi in on the mm and the same for the out...hehe... so ive swapped that so in goes to out and out goes to in. It makes sense now but not at the time. I have a SB Audigy which has a midi in and midi out on the front but they look like ps2 connections. I went to my local store and they sold me a connection that uses the joystick port. The only thing is that is connected via the onboard soundcard I think. In cubase the inputs are SB Audigy Midi Port & SB Audigy Midi Port II - I don't know if I need to install something for it to recognise the joystick port?? Maybe I need to buy a cable that has the ps2 connections? I also don't know how to install the updates. All basic things, but I can't find any help within cubase or the mm manual as i think this is probably too basic. Any help is appreciated. Cheers, Jared. I know the Audigy 2 ZS External Hub as FULL SIZE midi ports on it. If you have the original Audigy 1 card with the drive bay add-on, it uses mini midi jacks to save space. My card came with two short adapter cables that plug into these mini 4 pin sockets and terminate to a normal midi socket that I can connect any regular midi cable into now. If you don't have these, you should be able to purchase them from creative or online elsewhere. Here's a link to cable I'm speaking of. http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=13&subcategory=55&product=252 You would need two of these, you would then be able to use the midi on the front with your normal midi cable connected to your MM. Your card (I'm assuming is an Audigy 1) also comes with a joystick/midi connector on a bracket. I believe this would be your Audigy MIDI 1 in cubase, and the one on the breakout box would be MIDI 2. Either should work okay with your MM. If you have a motherboard joystick/MIDI port, make sure you download the drivers from your motherboard manufacturers webpage to enable it. I learned just about everything I know from reading Keyboard Magazine and Electronic Musician every month. At first, most things and terminology was over my head, but with time, I picked things up and learned more and more. Good luck, come back with more questions if you're still having trouble

Hi Robert, Many thanks for the tips, I have the audigy 1 model, but I don't remember having the midi connector your showed me or the bracket....hhmm...it might be in a box so I'll double check that. Is it better then to go and buy the midi cable so I can connect it directly or is it just the same with the joystick cable? I'll also make sure the joystick is installed but it comes up under the device manager. Do you mind if I email you directly next time rather than continuing this via the yahoo group? I'm also pleased to hear that you've learnt via magazines etc... Thanks again! Cheers, Jared.
