Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the elektron-users group: Hi everybody! I'm currently writing an application for Mac OS X that will allows Machinedrum users to randomize the parameter of a given machine, thus allowing for the creation of total random soundz! I'm just wondering how many Machinedrum users out there use Mac OS X, and whether you'd be intrested in such a program (it would be freeware, of course). o I use Mac OS X and your program sounds cool! o I use Mac OS X but I don't think I'd use your program... even though it's going to be free o Damn! Why the hell am I running Windoze? Your program sounds WAY cool... I wish I could run it! o I don't run Mac OS X and your program sounds stupid! o I wish I had a computer... This poll should read are you a keyboard player .... not do you have a keyboard in your studio . They are not the same thing .. Especially after your " It's difficult to produce electronic music of any quality " comment... And then there's kraftwerk , tangerine dream , Giorgio moroder... All use sequencers to create syncopated beats and rhythmns but I suppose there's always Richard Clayderman... :) --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi folks, Now that I have the Sidstation up and running I am wondering about what others use as a noise gate for it? The manual recommends a Behringer 1 rack unit module, but space is kinda tight here and I hate to use an entire rack space for a noise gate. Also was wondering if there is a device that does normal threshold noise gate plus gate/trigger effects? Is it possible to use guitar style stomp box noise gates with a Sid such as MXR or Boss, or are these one for guitar level signals, not line level? What would give me the best sounding results? Sorry if these questions may be a bit dopey but I mainly play guitar and this is my first synth of this type... Thanks!! -V

The Boss NS-50 is a half-rack stereo noise gate that works very well for synths like the Sidstation. I've got a few of them, and would sell some of the extra ones for $50 each (without power supply) if anyone is interested. The inputs and outputs are 1/4" phone jacks and are switchable between guitar and line level. E-mail me off-list at ivancu@... Ivan

This goes into the old problem of what "exist" means. If I wanted to use existing sounds, I'd use a sampler. I find it hard to make sounds I want since there are so many parameters. It is difficult to find the right combination. Something suprising always comes along. I'm getting better. It's also why I like slow knob movements without pushing down. The sound can change dramatically within about 3 points. I didn't get it to make existing sounds. --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, elektron-users@yahoogroups.com wrote:

What's a good or bad answer? Is it good to create sounds that already exist? Or maybe it's good to create sounds that *can't* possibly exist! And what is a sound that already exists? Where does it exist? In nature? In a drum kit? In another synth? Your question is *VAGUE* and probably not going to give you what you're looking for.

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the elektron-users group: Some people want new Machinedrum algorhytmes for distortion, EQ, Filters and SRR (BDR) in MD-OS update. And some dont. If algos are improved this means that earlier kits don't sound same anymore. There has been mentioned of choice of a switch in global menu (where user could choose which way he prefers, old or new algos). If the switch would be added to global menu. This would probably mean, that kits couldn't remember their own position of switch and user should always set it if kit needed the other setting. How would you like algos in MD-update? o Yes I want the new algos and no switch is ok to me. o Yes I want the new algos, but there has to be a switch some sorf of. o No new algos. No switct either, it would make MD clumsy. o I'm not even interested of algos, I want something else. I wanted to suggest this for the MnM, but I guess it is too full to consider adding a 6th machine. -gerald

Actually, I discovered on the MM this weekend that if you put it in record mode, and turn the knobs, the values are recorded as parameter locks.

I think Elektron's inventions are changing the progression of a lot of new electronic music because of their unique designs. My opinion is they should keep innovating without limiting themselves to outdated audio technologies as a gimmick. The Sid Station is obviously a classic machine, but I think anybody who owns an MD or a Mono knows that the ultra-intuitive interface design and audiophile sound quality of these two instruments is the way forward. I just want to see the imagination of these guys totally unhindered without working around limitations inherent in old chips. It also makes for a much wider range of possible sounds. The distinct character of old chips like the Sid is what makes them so cool, but also less versatile. Hence the "bit-pop" electroclash associations. Anyways, that's my two cents! --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, elektron-users@yahoogroups.com wrote: > > > Enter your vote today!
