Monomachine - what's all the fuss about?

Monomachine - what's all the fuss about?

2003-04-17 by Col Dee

lincolnlab:
"Of course, the MONOmachine is going to be a dream."

Can anyone tell me what is so good about the Monomachine? I've looked
around on the internet and can only find what is written on the
official www.monomachine.com page, which is very little really.

What is actually going to be original and exciting about the
Monomachine? People here seem to know something I don't!

Not that I'm dissing the Monomachine; being an Elektron product, I'm
sure it will be quite good. I'd just like to know what is so amazing
about it!

Re: [elektron] Monomachine - what's all the fuss about?

Ok.

First off, if you've used a machinedrum, you understand that it's user
interface is quite unique: its fun to use, inspires you to be creative
and delivers excellent results. Its "Machines" approach gives you a
refreshing selection of sounds and methods for which to create them.

Take all of that into account and make it a polyphonic synthesizer,
with 6 independent delay channels, and synthesis types not represented
in current synths and you have your answer. Not to mention they are
super sexy and ooze quality design.

In short, Elektron's track record is kick ass and judging by the ideas
and results of the current gear, is already more than what's currently
out there.

Now all Elektron has to do is give me one for kissing this much ass!

Why name a poly keyboard MONO machine? Seems like you're going to
hurt business that way. That's like naming a true analog
synth "Virtual".

Maybe Elektron is up on their Spanish, and they really
mean "MonkeyMachine". I did that with a 3" I released called
Monophidelic. I used a 50 year old monkey toy as the only sound
source on that, so Monophidelic --> Monkey lover in this case.

That sounds like you have a serious problem.
My adapter doesnt make any noise and the strange behaviour that you experience is definetly not normal.
You should contact Elektron and get it repaired.
But be prepared to wait around 4 weeks, because that seems to be the normal retruen time for them.
I am still waiting for my brandnew MD that died after a 6 days (went off with a buzz)
Has been at Elektron for 2 weeks now !
Support is pretty desastrous to say the least. One guy is doing all the repairs and he is only in 2 days a week!

At least they cover the shipping. I just wonder what happens when the warranty runs out!

Man, i'm currently thinking of getting a MD but
all these emails about hardware problems, 4
weeks waiting for repairs, import charges...
that's a huge HUGE turn off. I mean damn, they got
2 products with big big price, can't they make
reliable quailty products.

And i was thinking the same thing about the warranty.
What happens if your MD brakes after the warranty expires...
You have to ship it to Sweden, pay for international shipping
and wait 4-6 weeks ?

The MD Idea is great but i'm scared for the rest...

Aren't we talking around 4-5 out of say a 1000 product run

Plus No-one has said Elektron's support isn't responsive....which is high
praise for any company in this Synth industry which is renowned for crap
support..

Import charges ...fair is fair we in europe pay 17.5% VAT straight off which
inflates the price...

That's VTA in UK

France's is at 19,6%

A common duties tax is VTA + Import taxes + Whatever They Think Of = 25-27 %
(never ask french for the exact %, it's impossible to know)

Fortunately, now in the UE we pay only the VTA of the selling country (if
UE)

Also for all in EU (UE is in French ;) there is an exemption from customs
duties of 180 e

Also just sent yesterday sids for repairs to Elektron (Hi! they are coming
;) and no customs paper, nothing.

I love EU (wellŠ there are limits ;)))

If you are on OS9, slow down the BPM in LogicŠ oops you did it alreadyŠ
What is your midi interface ? :-/

If you are on OSX use Sysex Librarian, its goooooooooooood :)
(I repeat: used for months at the french importer of Elektron to update MDs,
and it works really great)

The MD is a solid machine. These are very few cases where there are
problems. I have had no problems with mine. I'm sure these are a few
models that made it through quality control which they must be
refining as they try to meet demands.

My fiance cracked my screen. Now we are thinking about going to
Sweden. They pay for the shipping if it soessn't work but in this
case she broke it through neglect.

If you are in the States the import duty is quite low. We have alot
of exports.

Think of it as giving back to your country. OK 10 out of 1000. It's
still less than 1% of the output. Sometimes it's the wrong power supply.

Yes, I'm defending a great product that you can't find anywhere else.
And no I don't work for them. i've just had a good experience. Some
have had bad experiences. This does not mean the bad outweigh the
good since they are so few and far between. There are alot of posts
here about it because there is not much else to talk about the
machine. It works great. When there is nothing wrong, there isn't
much traffic here. When someone has a problem we seem to post about
it for a week or so. It's blown out of proportion. Wither you want
the machine or you'll never know.

2003-04-19 by schmackofanz

Well i guess shit happens and if you buy a product you must face the fact that it might break and needs repair.
What pisses me off is the fact that the only way to establish a communication between Elektron and the endcustomers is to call them on the phone.
Emails dont get answered because they only look at their emails twice a week and they get several hundreds every day (quote!)
I understand that Elektron is a tiny company and is now very busy working on the monomachine but i still feel that they should invest some time and money to get their act together and put more effort into their support section to keep their existing customers happy.

just my 2 cents

What?
they always replied to my emails in a day or less... they even
explained me how a compressor works!

are you sure that you're writing to the right address?
May be they are really busy working on the Mono.

Try writing to Emagic and you'll have an idea of a really bad support
section...

Re: [elektron] Monomachine - what's all the fuss about?

your answer.

Let me get this straight. It's got new, Monomachine-exclusive
synthesis technologies? If so, then that can only be good!

>Not to mention they are super sexy and ooze quality design.

It certainly does LOOK pretty damn good!

I wonder how much it's going to cost???
