Elektron's policy on moneyback?

Elektron's policy on moneyback?

2003-09-14 by hal3001

anyone have to deal with this? i'm thinking bout picking up one of
those monomachines, it seems real fun for making some weird ass psy
with!, but the demos on the site, well they're f'n horrible. but i
don't think this synth should be limited by just the sounds there.
well i did love the sid demo... i really love sid for leads, one of
the greatest synths for leads...that bending sound ... mmmmmmmm...
gotta love it:)....but anyone know how easy it is to get the money
back? not a pain in the ass? i want to pick it up, maybe order it as
soon as this week when they become ready, but still so wo rried about
spending a lot of money on a synth that sounds like soft synths...ya
know?:) so this way i have no worries. i'm sure i'll have some fun
with the vocal part, that part seems cool as hell: ), i just worry a
bit:) also anyone know if that kb is velocity? hmmm this synth
might bring some psy madness mayhem or might bring some sadness:(
hopefully the madnesS:D

You should have no problem taking it back if you don't like it. The thing you have to
think about is import duties. You won't get that money back.

and on something as expensive as the monomachine, it will probably be
close to $200 if you live in the US. also remember that you will have to
pay postage to get it back to them. I'm guessing that that will be
pretty pricey as well, since the cheapest way to get my Sid to them
(USPS) was $50. and the Sid's *incredibly* light compared to the MD; so
imagine how much the MM weighs!

I thought that import duties are sometihng like 4% on keyboards? so
that should only be like 70 or so... yea shippin would be a pain :(
but.. hrmm should i risk it or not!?:o or just spend some extra money
and get a used A6, or kurzweil k2600s?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

you're right. once I looked it up and did the math, I saw that :-) it's
5.3% on synths (at least, that's what they charged me on the Sid). so
if you get it during the beta period for $1400, it will be $74.20 import
duty (plus the $5 Fed-Ex "convenience" fee for paying it up-front for you).

> yea shippin would be a pain :(

yeah. I imagine it's costing Elektron well over $100 to Fed-Ex these via
global priority. because global priority of my Sid was about $130 and
again, it weighs like a sheet of paper compared to the MM. I'd imagine
it's originally $200-ish for the MM, but Elektron might get a discount for
being exclusive Fed-Ex'ers, so...

either way...yeah, it's a lot of $.

> but.. hrmm should i risk it or not!?:o or just spend some extra money
> and get a used A6, or kurzweil k2600s?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

it's your call, man. I'm personally going to get the MM once I have the
money (and hopefully if a module/rack version comes out). I have faith
in Elektron that it will be well worth the money. the MD is a lot of $,
but worth every dime once you see the ease of use and breadth of sounds
it offers. I'm sure that the MM is the exact same way (and in fact,
Elektron have told me "if you think the MD has endless options, wait
until you play the MM!"). besides, it has a built-in sequencer; and I'm
a sucker for that :-)

also, if you get it and don't like it, you can probably sell it on eBay
very easily (but post an ad in here first!). you'll probably take less
of a financial hit that way, since you wont' have to pay for shipping.

Monomachine support

2003-09-14 by Daniel Hansson

Hi everyone!

I hope you won't mind having me around here for a while. I'll do some
support for the first customers of the Monomachine in this list. We
thought it would make sense to do the first support publicly so all users
can follow the discussions. The users manual is not ready yet so there
will probably be a need to explain some internals as the first users get
their machines.

I hope I'll not disturb the discussions here too much. Remember that we do
not want to control what people say here. This forum should be open for
all opinions as long as the tone is fairly polite and the topics don't go
too much off the limits.

I can't spend all my time here so don't always expect immediate replies
from me. If you place a Monomachine question directly to me, please state
so.

Thanks for your patience!

Just curious how long will the sale of beta machines last at that price.

Thanks,

That depends on how quickly the Elektron friends will buy out the first
batch of 100 units. It could be 2 days or it could be a month, I don't
know. We did the same thing for the Machinedrum and it sold out in about
a week I think. This product is a bit more expensive so we'll need to wait
and see what happens.

Re: [elektron] Monomachine support

2003-09-14 by frank moreno

Hello Daniel,

I want to order a Monomachine. However, I have a couple of concerns
regarding shipping. I had a problem with DHL and FedEX.

The DHL problem occured during my Sidstation purchase from Elektron. They
charged a double fee for importation. I refused to pay the excessive amount
and they may try and hold the MonoMachine hostage. So, PLEASE NO NOT use
DHL.

Second problem. I ordered a MachineDrum from Elektron. You guys shipped it
regular Swedish postal service. That worked just fine. However, this was an
early model (#A10600078-45) with the knob problem. I returned the unit for
repair and the unit was sent back to me using FedEX.

Well, FedEX tried to charge me import duties. I have disputed the charge. I
filed the documets stating this was an "original manufacturer warranty
repair" and is not subject to import fees. They are still sending me bills
and have now sent me to a collection agency.

Can you help me with the FedEX situation? And can you use the Swedish
postal service for shipping to me in the USA?
Sorry to be so needy. I want to fix the FedEX situation, so I can use them
in the future. Looking forward to owning a MonoMachine.

Thanks Daniel,

^f.

is it here yet?

Just ordered mine, 62 now left according to the web page.

I like the idea that it will arrive with no presets and minimal
instructions. Just like my first AKS.

Re: [elektron] Monomachine Ordered!

Nope. Ordered it about 3pm PST today. Hoping for Wed, as my
Machinedrum took 2 days.

Re: Monomachine Ordered!

I ordered one, too. To be honest, I was a little surprised how
quick I was to do it. The demos are awful IMO - it sounds very thin,
just like I'd expect from a VA - and I don't have any space for a
keyboard but I have faith that Elektron will deliver something very
useful and unique. My main hope is that there are no hardware
problems. I've never sent my MachineDrum back to have the knob upgrade
or noise floor repairs done, just because of the hassle with shipping
and customs, etcetera. That's always been a bit of a black eye on the
MD for me.
I guess I'll be hanging around here again.

Was there another friend email? I didn't receive one and I see nothing

Now that Elektron is opening a number of in-country

repairs & returns through them. A nice gesture - save

[elektron] Re: Monomachine Ordered!

You'd probably get the same problems. This is all about the delivery
services wanting money for their cargo. You'd have to deliver bulk
and do alot of paper work with the government to get special
tax/business incentives. Remember Elektron is still small. They had
enough trouble getting the Monomachine out to be worried about
setting up distributors. Not many companies can say how many units
they have to sell.

Then you'd have to train these guys to repair the thing. It'd be
nice if they can teach us to repair them for each case/situation. I
know the electronics could be impossible for most of us, but some of
the more hardware related problems... It'd be nice to have the tool
that could open the MD. Wouldn't it have been more nice if they
could have sent the new knobs (were they the potentometers that
needed replacement?) and.... well...nevermind.

It is the case with MESI in France (longest in the representative businness
of Elektron as the only one for a loooong time) for SIDs/MDs imported thru
it.

it _should_ be the same for the others under the same conditions at least.

Daniel - can we get/expect similar service through
your Elektron Partners in general or is this just
value-add by MESI? Even so, I guess it would have to
be a retailer, not a sales rep... ? Which leads to the
curiosity, when are you guys going to get a US
retailer? I don't see one listed.

MESI is a distributor, and you can expect such services from companies
that are distributors for us. However, we do only have distributors in
areas where we can not sell directly. Currently in France and Japan. The
reasons we are still in business is that we sell directly. What we do are
not really mass market products you know...

Sales reps of course can not offer any hardware support. They are just
good guys that can help to show what our instruments are about. We are
looking into getting a service center in the US, but nothing is settled
yet.

He Guys !

my tip for Europeans ordering:
if you run your own business you can ask your tax office for a
so called "European Tax number".

That saves you 25 % of Swedish Value Added Tax !
Meaning you pay only 25 % of the total price. check it out.

Yeah, how about Doug at SonicHighway.com or Geoff at GSF Agency or
Audiomidi.com !

No. I'm just kind of annoyed that I never received this email, if
indeed there was one. And that nobody has answered my simple questions.

I'm also used to usenet; where people reply to the most-relevant post
within a thread as good netiquette. So when someone replied to my post
when they should have replied to the top post AND they didn't answer my
question, I just got annoyed.

Sorry. Carry on.

No. I didn't intend on buying one; as I've said before in here, I'm
holding out in hopes that they'll release a module version.

I was just wondering what happened to the email and was curious whether
the email contained any other information. But thanks for sending it
(and thanks to the others who have forwarded it as well); and thanks
for your password! :-)

You just ordered an MD as well (I thought you had one for some reason)?
Ouch! That's gonna hurt. But I would recommend quitting your job and
purchasing a lot of coffee, because you probably won't be sleeping much
in the next couple of weeks! :-)

Joe
(who didn't cancel your orders, but just re-routed them a bit ;-)

I gave in and ordered one as well. I think I'm gonna go sell a kidney
to pay off my credit card...

Joe.

We're with Monomachine. ;-]

In addition, we're with debt. ;-]

What should we expect from the Monomachine?

Can someone explain to me why hardware synths, and I mean completely
digital hardware synths, tend to sound less "thin" than software
synths?

Why, in this time when it is possible to have a fully functional
synthesizer on the computer, should we buy hardware, APART from the
advantages of the knobs/sliders interface? What other advantages are
there to hardware?

Apart from interface?

That's like asking, 'Why buy a computer with a keyboard instead of just
a mouse, APART from the advantages of typing."

I don't necessarily find this to be true.

What are you using? What are you listening through?

Also, don't fall into the trap of thinking that that thin isn't "in".
How often are you going to EQ out the body of the sound you worked so
hard to fatten up, when you find it steps all over the vocal or the
groove!

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
