Hmm, everybody is to busy playing around so I'll give something to
listen to.
Everything is clean and uncompressed, no EQ, not mastered etc.
The sequences and sounds are made in very short notice.
Hope you'll enjoy:

Thank you, thank you! (....taking a bow ;-)
Hope you have some spare time, it's very hard to stay away from this
puppy!
I'm very happy with it!

Only two things:
Twisting knobs is easier (wich is better) but it feels a bit flimsy.
I hope the quality is better then it seems. (why not the same as MD?)
The two lowest led's of octave are not working (no big deal)

Enjoy, Ronald.

Well here's my report thus far. Everything seems to be in tact, although there were some loose screws bouncing around inside when I first got to it. (any idea how hard it is to find a torx screw driver at 12:00am!) Once up and running, started following the quick start guide. Got to my first sequence, went to track 2, and suddenly my first sequence was gone! Went to redo it, and then it froze up on me. Rebooted and the screen was off center. Rebooted again and all was well. Still can't seem to keep my first track pattern in tact when I go to the next track. Any ideas? Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Is there a save function that I have to do before I move to the next track?

Anyone else not get any sleep yesterday!?

I'm playin' hookie from work tomorrow just to be able to lock myself up
with the thing for a good 15 hours. I'll try to get some audio up from
this hemisphere, make it global. ;-]

Flimsy knobs is no good. I had some concerns that the Monomachine
hardware would be a tad left of ideal for us early adopters. I'm fine
with this, but I hope Elektron is willing to take repairs to get us 'up
to snuff' with revision 1.0 units, should we be willing to part with
our MnMs (I like that abbreviation ;-] ) for the couple weeks it would
take.

Hopefully those LEDs are just poorly soldered or some such. At least
that we could fix on our end.

Cheers,

Damon

Don't be to concerned about the knobs.
They feel lighter but I guess their o.k. (second opinion)
Lighter means also less torque on the construction.
Actually I wish the MD's were a bit lighter too :-)
I can't imagine why Elektron would use cheaper or inferior parts in
the first 100. They learned from the MD and it's more expensive to
change some parts afterwards.
I don't mind the Leds, I can fix it myself or else just leave it.
I play keyboard/transpose by ear and not by what a LED is telling ;-)

Ronald.

Re: [elektron] MonoMachine demo's and pictures

Good info about the knobs. I'm not upset, just making note of what to
be ginger with... which will be obvious once I get my hands on the
beast.

Heck, truth be told, I'm distracting my noodle with unnecessary
MnM-infused content due to an arguably unhealthy obsession with new
gear. I should just shut trap and wait. ;-]

I play by ear too, but I do love blinky lights.

Is that hum in the background some issue with your recording rig, or is
it the MnM?

that sucks! maybe it was just rattled around A LOT in shipment? I think
they would notice something like that. it looks they tested mine (the
plastic protector had been lifted and put back), did they test anyone

hmmm...I checked all the LED's after you said this. mine are cool. so
far, I've not experienced any hardware strangeness; just a *bit* of
OS weirdness. <crossing fingers that nothing bad happens>

also, my knobs seem a *bit* harder to turn than the MD knobs. maybe they'll
loosen up (I think the MD knobs did a bit). but nothing really feels too
flimsy in this beast. the joystick doesn't really snap back to center
the way I had hoped (and it's a bit off-center when in it's "home"
position as well), but that's not really a problem.

your demos are great, BTW. I wish I had a table big enough to lay the MD
and MM side-by-side like in your photos. it would make them a bit
easier to play, I think. right now, I have one above the other;
and that's fine. I mean, why am I complaining when I have these two
incredible machines to play? :-)

Re: [elektron] MonoMachine demo's and pictures

2003-09-24 by Stacey Dodds

Ok....all sorts of new fun now! I just got home and was about to post a new demo of what I have been working on since last night. I hit record, and then as soon as I unmuted track 5, all hell broke loose. The MM started freaking out and making this high pitched, feedback noise. I rebooted, and now when I play a key, it is triggering all 6 tracks at once! I did a soft reset, and it seemed ok for a little while (although I lost all of the patterns that I had programed). I hit the octave down key, and started re-recording one of the patterns. I went to the next track, hit the octave up key, and the keys started triggering all of the tracks again! Beta fun! Back to the drawing board.

Watch your speakers guys. When this thing starts to self oscillate, look out! Its loud! Sure sounds amazing otherwise! I can't believe some of the formant sounds that I had going.

spent on gear that makes sound. :)

[elektron] MonoMachine software and hardware weirdness. How about you?

2003-09-24 by Joe

Hey all,
Sorry to interrupt those of you who are busy tweaking the MM, but I have
a few questions regarding it:

first thing: the LED's above the tracks don't seem to light up when I
want to select a pattern. They light up just fine when I press them or
when I'm grid programming, though. Is anyone else's like this? Seems
like a software bug, since they do light up at other times. Anyway, if
nobody else's is like this, I need to talk to Elektron; if not, someone
should submit a bug report.

second: I wrote a sweet pattern to A01 yesterday and now it will play
two beats of it and quit. This didn't happen until I wrote something to
A02. The weird thing is, A02 will play fine; but if I switch to A01 and
play it (all two beats that will play) then go back to A02, I get
nothing (have to reboot). But if I just go to A01, *don't* play it and
then go back to A02 it will play just fine. weird. I know a couple of
you have lost patterns so far. Has anyone had a similar experience to
this? Or were they just random pattern losses?

third: someone else already mentioned cracking open their MM to fix the
keyboard; somebody else mentioned fixing some loose screws in there. I
wonder, does this void the warranty on it? Anyone know? I'm curious
because I have the same problem as I do on my MD: little flecks of
dust between the plastic screen and the LCD screen under it. I've never
opened the MD to fix it, but I'd like to know if it's possible/how to do
it. Anyone ever done this?

Thanks everyone!
Joe

Same here, I don't think it's a bug.
They just didn't implement it I guess.
maybe a feature request?

I lost a pattern in the beginning when I stopped recording.
Didn't have pattern switching problems so far but also didn't use it
much so far.

It seems more people have this problem, strange....
Maybe it's the providers fault due to bandwith or something.

I see. I'll report it then. How the hell can I tell where my patterns
are without LED's? it's weird that they wouldn't port that feature
over from the MD.

probably. I think in your case, though, they would probably prefer you
open it and do the five minute job yourself; it saves them the $ on
shipping.

Re: [elektron] MonoMachine software and hardware weirdness. How about you?

2003-09-24 by Stacey Dodds

Joe,

Cracking open the MD or MM is not too bad, as long as you have the right screwdriver to do it. Don't try and open it up with a flat head screw driver that "seems" to fit ok. You can strip the head and then you are definitely screwed.

As far as getting then entire front panel off, I had a very difficult time getting the knobs off of the Data Entry Section on the MM. I ended up just taking off the keyboard portion and then shaking the unit around until I could get to the loose screws bouncing around. I was unsuccessful in removing the left half of the MM top. It seems as though the knobs are attached in the same way on the MD. I just tried and they are very, very tight. I am afraid of applying too much pressure to get them off without breaking the shaft of the rotary encoders. Has anyone else been able to accomplish this?

Stacey

Actually this is the new feeling of knobs that we will move over to
for the Machinedrum also. We worked toghether with the factory to
get this feeling so it should be good for quick editing. I hope you
will get to like it. I guess everyone have their own preference
though.

> The two lowest led's of octave are not working (no big deal)

I can't understand how that can have happened. You should just know
how much we've tested them to make sure. :) Guess we can't ever be
totally sure... Please send a mail to support@... about this.

Hmmm... Are you sure you haven't pressed the "multi trig" key? In
two of the multi trig modes this is exactly what should happen.

Actually this is not a bug, but so far a lack of feature. I assume
you use the Machinedrum where the LED's indicate which patterns are
edited and which are empty. This is not available on the Monomachine
yet, but it's on the list. Or do you mean something else?

Well, we don't have so much problem with this. Just send us an
inquiry and convince us that you know what you are doing, and so we
can make a note that we approved you to open your box.

Yes, sorry about my absence for some days. I'm currently in Tokyo,
and was stopping over in Shanghai. Had some problems with the
Chinese internet connection, but now I'm back with full Japanese
Internet-power. I've just been going through some hundred mails that
people had managed to produce in the days I was offline... :)

no, you're exactly right in your assumptions :-) thanks for the help,

Ronald, your home page produces:
"Uw Fiberworld Homepage is geactiveerd.

Dit is een tijdelijke index pagina voor uw eigen homepage."

I'm afraid my Dutch is a little rusty. Care to translate for us?

Thanks.

It seems more people have this problem, strange....
Maybe it's the providers fault due to bandwith or something.
Try again a few times or I can send you some in an Email.

Ronald.

I greatly prefer the new knob feel! Good job on those - How can I get these on my MD?

Hmm, makes sense now.
It say's:
"Your webpage is activated, this is a temporary index page"
Are you trying to find my website? It's not there!
These are only direct links to files I copied to this webspace.
Copy/Paste the "ENTIRE" link in your browser adress bar and try again.
Let me know if it works.
Otherwise I can build a small link page on the webspace you're
referring to.

My original website is: www.roonan.nl
But no demo's of the MM there. (not yet that is ;-)

Ronald.

I was trying the web site because the links didn't work, and they still
don't work. I was able to access the pictures when you first posted
this, but since then I can't get at any of the mp3s. Thanks for any
help.
