[daniel] MM levels seem lower than MD

[daniel] MM levels seem lower than MD

2003-10-05 by Roonan

One thing keeps me bugging ;-)
The output levels of the MM tracks seem a bit soft compared to the
machine drum.
The only way to crank it up is using distortion or high resonance
and then it's way up if you know what I mean. On the MD the
influence of distortion on the volume is far less.
Adjusting overall track volume + volume in the amp section to max
can't give me the same output as the MD, it's at least 10db
difference!
Is this as designed? Or is it due to the dynamix processor on the MD.
(or the lack of it on the MM)
It seems to me that the full dynamic potential of the output stage
of the MM is not used, unless you use a lot of distortion or extreme
resonance.

Ronald.

First, bypass the dynamix processor on the MD before you compare
anything. A compressor is very good for getting the signal level
higher, and should not be a part of this comparison.

Then try different machines with different settings. Some of them
have a bit lower level when first loaded up, but that's to make room
for the level increase that some parameters can do.

When you have done all you can to crank up the basic machines on
both machines (no track or master effects) there is no reason that
the Monomachine should be more silent than the Machinedrum. It may
still be so though, because alot of the sound parts are still in the
works. With OS1.0 we should try to have the volume maximised.

Hopefully we'll be able to add a compressor as FX to the Monomachine
some time, so you can get the level even higher if you want...
