broken Knob On MD

2004-05-01 by his_nibbs99

I could cry!!

only got the Machine drum this week and already i've broken a data
entry pot !

can anyone enlighten me as to what to do - how much will it cost to
repair etc.

the actual shaft inside has snapped!

are the data entry knobs all part of a whole component or separate
pieces (for those how have peaked inside)

Please help

Jez

don't know. you'll have to contact Elektron. if you're in the US,
there's a repair facility in LA (which is cheaper to ship to than
Sweden). if it's under warranty, you might have to pay nothing other
than shipping. if not, it's all on you I'm afraid.

separate. but they're all soldered directly to the board right
underneath the interface and look like a bit of a pain to replace. IF
you are experienced at such things and you're machine's out of
warranty, then talk to the Elektron techs; they MAY allow you to
replace it yourself. they've been incredibly helpful with me doing
some minor repairs/tweaks to my machines.

either way, your situation sucks :-( sorry, man...

good luck!
Joe

Thanks for the concerns chaps -
it's still under warranty bought it brand spanking new 3 fooking
days ago.

There was a bit of grit or swark behind the LCD so all I did was
unscrew the face plate and ease the pots off the stems and blow with
some canned air the grit away.

The pots didn't like being lifted unfortunatley (very stiff -
snap!!).I've done this numerous times on other equipment with no
problems.

just seen the pictures of the guy who opened his up in the links
section and indeed they are mounted on the board. Looks like shes
going back to Sweden for a makeover.

Unless they can send me some new pots to solder myself

Damn

Jez

(Nice first post eh ?)

i experienced exactly the same with monomachine; there was some shit
behind the lcd when i received the synth. luckily i asked what's the
score from the support and they told not to remove the
knobs/panel 'cos i'd most propably end up with a broken knobs. i
guess i have to just live with it... :(
