MachineDrum wiring to Protools ???????

MachineDrum wiring to Protools ???????

2004-09-21 by synth12345

Hi I Just baught my machinedrum and will have it in a few days from
Novamusik.com My question is Im running Protools HD Acell with a True
systems Precision 8 8 channel Mic preamp So I have A total of 8 channels of
Mic pre and a/d d/a. Are the outs of the Machinedrum balanced or
unbalanced conections and how many outs are their? Also What Im wanting
to do is sequence kick, snr, hihat.ride whatever onto seperate tracks into
Protools for mixing The kit within the session But I want to do all the
sequencing using Machinedrums sequencer !!!!! I am trynig to figure out
because I have two channels of DI imput available to me thru my mic pre If I
could track thru those into Protools and then somehow within Machinedrum
only record single hits from the Machinedrum sequencer into protools. I hope
im making sense here!!!! I dont know what kinda cables to get or the best way
to hook this up to my Protools rig for tracking My Machinedrum sequence into
individual Protools tracks For mixing? I need help!!!!!!!

6 unbalanced

Ok, this is how I do it (I use Logic, not PT, but it should be the
same).

MD gets the midi clock from the sequencer
All the outputs are wired to the audio interface input
The MD sequencer is in "pattern" mode, not "song"
You can still record midi from the MD into the sequencer, but you
mainly work on audio.

mmmm... not to me.
do you mean that you only have 2 inputs available?
Well, you can still record single tracks on the sequencer, but it's
going to take you a long time, because you''ll have to use muting on
the MD.

jack-jack or cannon-jack. it depends on the input of your mixer.
unbalanced because they are cheaper, technically it's the same.

Thanks for your reply I guess I could go out of the MD 6 outputs
Unbalanced to the anolog input of my 192 i/o db25 connector and then i
could record up to 6 single hits to 6 seperate mono tracks in Protools
at a time right? How do you specify in the MD which hits in you drum
sequence are assigned to the 6 different outputs on the MD and is that
the best way to do it in your opinion? The other question is since the
output jacks on the MD are all unbalanced quarter inch and the only
possible connectors on my 192 I/O ARE DB25 CONNECTORS would I need some
kind of modified custom cable or just go out the 6 MD outputs
unbalanced to DB25 unbalanced -10db anolog input? Sorry for all these
questions I am just usually a totally In the box software guy so
hardware is new to me!!!!!! Thanks for your time I apreciate it regards

not to be a jerk, but the manual IS available at machinedrum.com and
it answers a lot of these questions. I personally found it very
useful to read through it before the MD arrived; that way, I could
get to programming it right away instead of reading with it sitting
there unused :-)

I don't know about db25 connections. but I do know this: the MD
outputs are +4dB outputs. so if you plug them into the -10dB
inputs, you're going to get noise and distortion. the only way
around it is to attenuate them prior to sending them to the -10dB
input. the master volume can serve this purpose for the A/B
output, but you'll need a mixer to attenuate the C/D/E/F outputs.
unless your interface can switch to +4dB; if so, then do that.
