This is common in any device that has chips and is that old..... try  
working on old pinballs / slot machines / videogames sometime ! :-)

I do not recommend shorting pins together.....

So, after removing power from emax,

1) Attach anti-static wrist strap
2) put down anti-static material (packages that computer motherboards  
come in have a silvery plastic bag, use this if available)
3)  remove the boards from emax (mark all connectors where they go)
4) Gently pry up chips a little bit on both ends with flat  
screwdriver (like Wayne said-  you do not have to completely remove  
the chip from the board)
5) Press Chips back down
6) put boards back in emax

TEST!!
