funny reading...

funny reading...

its quite funny now reading about the "huge" potential of 8mb ram & 40mb
hard drive... how times change. the online adverts show just how lucky we
are in these days of the big samplers a la e4xt & z8's.

anyways, i see that the emax manual is in this forum's files page, but not
for the emax ii. how similar are they & is it worth me reading the original
or will i be too confused...? not that i'll be using this new baby for too
much sampling - probably just for live work as i have the 2 e4xt's i
mentioned in the last (first) email.

question : anyone using the fujitsu 230mb optical drive with the emax ii?
its one of the few drives i can seem to plug in *anywhere* & it works. my
e4xt ultra has the upgraded 15gb internal ata drive but i've added an apple
cd-rom & the fujitsu 230mb optical into a glyph case i was given as it was
"broken". only a few loose leads! its always good to back up data onto
another drive & these fujitsu's are great - i've used 'em for years &
*never* had a disc failure... not something that can be said for zips!!

right, off to ebay to pick up some more drives.

Hello, welcome to list.

Emax II manual see

Dunno if MO will work, but I´d say chances are high.
I´m also using MO 230 (with Ultras), also never had any problem.
See ya´. Regs RR

I still think that's enough potential for plenty of stuff you might want to
do....
I believe that modern samplers chuch in more ram *because they can* and to
look better on paper. but when you're looking at 256 MB of RAM, you don't
need a sampler, you need a HD recorder, maybe with an auto timestretch
software...

Personally, I have an MPC with 32 meg of RAM that I play live, and it is
still only pushing about 20 MB for a 1 hour set. (I also use synths live
though..) It's more likely to run out of the actual number of samples it can
have in memory, than sample RAM. Though I do find the 1/2 meg of RAM in my
emax to be a bit limiting sometimes..
:-P

Anyway, hi again... I've seen you around a bit now.... and congratulations
on your new purchase! I've often considered the idea of an emaxII, but never
quite managed to get one yet.

i actually swapped an skb 16u shock-mounted rack (i bought 7 at $100 each
back in the uk) for an emax ii hd rack a while ago but never got in to
programming it as i have the e4's, then when i decided i needed an
all-in-one machine for purely live use i remember reading that depeche mode
used 'em for a few tours & that they're really robust - the emaxs & not
depeche! };-)

i can't complain at the price of this machine either - a total bargain even
if its the basic model. 1mb would be enough for a song seeing as though i
don't do too much live, as can be seen on http://alaskahighway.com/pictures.
i'm the old git at the back btw!

the mo drives are amazing drives & need no specialised drivers - literally
plug-n-play on anything from the early macs (classic iis) to s1000's,
esi-32's to *hopefully* the emax! i'll certainly report the success (or
failure!) when the keyboard arrives. i've already found a 500mb ex-apple
drive so just need to work out how to mount it safely internally, or i
suppose another external drive case wouldn't be the end of the world...
