Re: [emax] emx for mac os 9

Hello,
Is there anything like EMX for macintosh os 9? I've been wanting to buy the
chicken systems translator software for a while as it seems to be the ONLY
thing I can find that does anything remotely helpfull for my machines but I
really miss EMX, being able to get some of the old sample disks was pretty
cool, Does anyone know of anything free that'll make emax 1 files reable by
my E4? I have an emax IIr I bought just for this purpose but it came in the
mail with an unreadable lcd and won't playback anything I attempt to load
and the whole bottom list of charactors is not on the lcd so I can't even
see to attempt the file conversion.
Resampling my entire emax library is just too much of a hassle.
Did chicken systems ever finish a full conversion for the emax 1?
Anyway if anyone knows of anything that would help with file conversion
between these and a way to use emx on mac please let me know.
Thanks,
Nicholas

Hello Nicholas,

The only two programs i know are Sound Designer and alchemy, under
mac 7.5..
I am looking for the same thing as you : to be able to stock and
transfer sounds from my Emax Sehd and Emax II to my Mac (os X),
an/or transfer them to my E4xt...
I think I found a way, but didn't yet tested it completely : I got an
EIIIxp who seems to be quite compatible with the Emax II banks by Scsi.
The EIIIxt can import samples or complete banks from a Scsi strorage
of the EmaxII, and save banks as EIII.
So I can now take banks in Emax1, transfer it to the EmaxII that
converts to 16bits, and transfer it to the EIIIxt...
I read the the banks of the IIIxt are compatible with E4, but didn't
tesed it at this time.
Next step will be to add an scsi card to my g5 to make communication
with the E4 possible...

You should be able to go from the Emax 11 direct to the E4 family.

I exported the Emax 1 library to the Emax 11 and then via SCSI Zip drive exported to the Esynth rack
without any problem.

What I did originally was, load all my emax 1 sounds into the emax 2, then
save all the emax 1 & 2 sounds to a SCSI device (SCSI HD or ZIP), then you
can connect said device to an EOS sampler and then directly load the sounds
into the EOS sampler. I have so many sounds though that doing all of them
this way would have taken forever so, I am currently using a PC to run EMX
and save them all to a HD.

Hi,
I don't think it works with floppies - at least not with the Esynth.

The import options are normally only with SCSI.

Lyn is correct. It will not load floppies. Only SCSI.

Hi,

Thanks to lyn and s* !!!
I can read my emaxII external hd on the E4 ! really great !
so i also tryed another thing : to connect my Iomega Zip 250 on the
EmaxII,
and began to format a cartrige to test it then on the E4.
I started the formatting a quarter of an hour ago, and the lcd of the
emaxII still says
'format drive #5
Iomega ZIP 250'
Is it normal to be so long ?
Thanks again

Cruising

Hey Cruising,

I use 2 Zip 100's myself. It takes a few minutes to format each of my Zip
100 discs. I don't know how long the 250's will take to format to be
honest. I say, give it an hour, if it is not done formatting by then, you
know there is most likely a problem. Also, you should not rely only on ZIP
discs. Get yourself a SCSI Hard Drive as well to back up all your sounds to
because Zip drives are often very unreliable.

Good luck!
