Emax SE disk? Can someone mail me one?

Emax SE disk? Can someone mail me one?

2006-11-02 by peter_vh01

Hey guys...

I've tried every method out there to get an SE disk created, but I
have had no luck. I am wondering if some kind soul on this forum could
perhaps copy me a disk and mail it? (to ottawa/canada).

I will of course reimburse you for postage/packing and such. I would
really appreciate this!

Thanks!

- Peter

Correction...I will be looking for the PLUS disk rather than the SE
disk...

Thanks!

i had this problem for awhile man, if you have a friend with win98se
or anything earlier, the copyqm plus disk in the files section WILL
work, have not tried it in winXP but it's possible it will work there
too... i recommend trying it in 98 because it worked no prob for me,
make sure u use double-density floppies, hope you get it going!

definitelly you can try copy qm...it works in win 98 though and also better
do it yourself just to find out how its done...pretty easy but you got to
get hold of an older system...

They state on that page that they have the Plus OS disk. Maybe you
could email them and request one. info@...

Peter,
I am wondering if you had any better luck with this. I am in the same
boat and have tried everything in MS-DOS. I am not sure if I am
experiencing problems with the Floppy disk or the program. Each time
that I think I am going to be successful, the system fool mee and never
load. I get a "System Is Loading Software " message. It makes a
repetative sound like it is about to load but doesn't. It's like a four
count and the LEDs flash on four. That goes on until I stop it. That
the closes that I have come to being successful which is very
aggravating. I don't have any factory disk at all. Someone sent a few
disks to me and I am so thankful for them, but the EMAX will not
recognize them either. Got any pointers?

Hello,

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this thread, I had not realized
it was still in progression!

A very kind person from this group has created me a working disc of
the Plus OS software, and it will be mailed to me shortly. Following
that, I would be glad to produce a copy of the OS for anyone else
interested. All you will have to do is cover the shipping.

I will be out of town shortly until the first week of January, at
which point I expect the OS disc will have arrived at my doorstep.
Shoot me an e-mail, and I'll send you a copy of the os software.

Peter,
Yes. I need a copy. I just scored an SE rack with the blue SCSI
connector on the back. I believe the Plus OS would be required at
some point before I could use the SCSI features.
I'm not sure if it has the most current SE update loaded or not. If
not , I have to keep trying to update it via the seup.em1 file. So
far, I have tried evrything with no luck to upgrade to SE.
Do I pay you via PAYPAL?

the regular emax has a small blue connector that isn't scsi but some rs-232 connector or something, If you have a wide scsi connector on it then I'd love to see a pic.

This list's files sectionn has everything you need to make a plus OS disk. Thanks to E synthesist!!!

Elmacaco,
You are right. There is no wide SCSI connector present. So this unit does not have SCSI interface. So I only need to upgrade from Emax 3.2 to SE. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the SE upgrade file to work. I must be doing something wrong.
I have DOS 5.xx and have downloaded both EMAX and EMAXUTIL loaded them both on the DOS box. I have downloaded SEUP.EM1 and successfully wrote to a floppy format in the EMAX DOS program. I have done everything step by step, but when I boot the disk on the EMAX machine itself, nothing happens. I'm missing something.

If it's a SE unit wouldn't it already be upgraded? just need SE os and you should have those functions.

(I put into my keyboard from a rack unit - see attached picture), it
IS a SCSI port. While db25 is commonly used as a serial, it is also
used as a SCSI-1 (5 MB/s) connector. I used this connector to hook
to my external zip drive. If you look closely at the logic board in
the emax you will see that the pins for this connector hook in line
with the wide scsi connector for the hard drive and from there go to
the 5380 SCSI controller.
Hope this helps some people that thought they didn't have scsi but
actually do If you have this connector, you should be able to load
the plus os or HD os.... on my keyboard there was a plate where the
connector is now. So if you didn't have scsi they put a plate instead
of the connector.

E-man,
I beleive you are right. A disk that I came across had OS 3.2 on it. I continued the effort of properly downloading the SE 1.1 and have just about succeeded. I say just about because after I copied OS SE 1.1 to the boot disk, it boots fine and all but whren I try to load the sequence on the disk it will not play it and before. Instead I get the messagge "Wait a Moment" and nothing happens. I have to reboot to unlock it.

I will try loading the O.S. Plus and see what happens.

  Thanks E-man.

Elmacaco,
You are right.

This list's files sectionn has everything you need to make a plus OS disk. Thanks to E synthesist!!!

Peter,

Ted this is good news. I have a zip drive so I am going to work now on uploading O.S. Plus and then try the zip to see if I can get it to work. I will post the result.

Hi Jip

Is this the scsi card reader you have connected to an Emax and are you able to read and write sample banks to the card as it would on a harddrive?:

of the connector.

Yes,
It is connected directly to the Emax SCSI conector
and it read and write from and to a SD or CF card the
same as if it was a hard drive. The O.S. has been
copied to the card reader and I don't have to use the
floppy drive and disk for booting up.

Wow man, this is great.
Finally we can get rid of these unreliable zipdrives, those noisy
harddrives, and those slow floppy drives.

That makes me think: it's probably also possible to replace the
internal floppy drive by an internal scsi cardreader and connect it
to the internal SCSI connector. I know some Akai guys changed their
S1100 like this, but now it seems that we -Emax enthousiasts- can
also use this great solution !

Re: SV: Re: [emax] Re: Emax SE disk? Can someone mail me one?

2007-01-01 by Jip Harrio

It is great indeed to have SCSI and the card reader
work properly. The reader that I have is the Microtech
47B external. The only drawback is that it is noisy. I
would love to be able to use it internally somehow.

I also have the same type internal card reader but
haven't decided if I really want to put it in the
Emax. The floppy space would be too high for this
reader. It would leave extra space. Not only that, I
think that I really want to reserve it for my ASR-10
rack. It fits in the ASR-10 floppy slot just perfect.
I just have to figure how to customize ribbon cable to
connect it to the SCSI board.

I just moved and finally turning on my Emax (Original 1986 version).
Only thing that happens is the window lights up and says E-mu Systems
Inc and Loading Software on the next line. I haven't installed a disk
yet. Tried putting a disk in and still says the same thing. I also
get a light, second up from the bottom between ther Sequencer and
Modules lists. Actually between the Play and Preset Definitions.
Nothing else happens I have never updated the disk drives and still
ude the 3 1/2 DD floppies.
