emax problem

2007-03-30 by Brooks Mosher

hello, i'm new to this list and i very much appreciate any help i could get
for an Emax i just purchased. i purchased it broken with the intent to
eventually have it fixed. it may just need a floppy drive but i was hoping
someone on this list could give me a little insight as to what the LCD
messages mean when i turn on the unit. basically i turn it on and the LCD
says "Diagnostics" for about 15 seconds and then it says "Loading operating
system" and that's it. the person i bought it from seems to think that the
floppy is the only problem, however i do not have the operating system disk
nor did he have one either to try. does anyone on this list know why it
reads "Diagnostics" when i first turn on the unit? could this mean that
there is more than just a bad floppy drive? any help would be really really
appreciated!!!!

That means the unit is functioning perfectly as far as we can tell
(up to that point). The OS is on a floppy (unless you have a hard
drive in the unit). So you need a floppy... you can make one from
files on the group. get emxp and an os image.

Thanks Ted, I'll get the OS onto a floppy (just bought some DD floppies) and
go from there. So the Emax normally says "Diagnostics" as soon as you power
it up?

Yep- then it tries to load OS from Floppy, then HD if present. BTW-
some people have a hard drive/SCSI capability and don't know it
because it has no OS on it or it died...

Thx,

I don't think mine has the HD capability because it's actually the Baldwin
model (Baldwin sold Emaxes that were just repackaged with the Baldwin
name). So from what I understood the Baldwin model is just the basic Emax.

floppy drive! anyone out there that can give me a little insight into
this? i'd really appreciate any help!!

okay, i've figured it out...

i had to format the disk to EMAX format with omniflop, copy the os image
into the subfolder for EMXP and now everything should work fine...

okay, i needed to obtain a license for omniflop...

this is a very convoluted program.

so now i get an errorcode of 89 which probably means that i formated the
disk incorrectly... ugh.

emax problem

2011-09-08 by jchatzilias

hey...i love my emax..but when i sample something..i can't define the keyrange of the sample higher than a few semi tones...any one familiar with this problem?

if i was to load a disk with a sample that is keymapped across the whole keyboard..it loads fine..just when i sample from scratch or a completely initial state..

When you load a disk with a sound keymapped across the keyboard, it works because the disk has a multisampled set that it loads. The emax can only pitch a single sample up a limited range.

if you want 1 sample for the whole keyboard yo need to sample at c6 as it will only transpose up to its maximum playing frequency which is usually double max sampling frequency unless it the

ultra samplers which have 128x oversampling so can pitch interpolation over the whole range of the keyboard from 1 sample

  Subject: [emax] Re: emax problem

When you load a disk with a sound keymapped across the keyboard, it works because the disk has a multisampled set that it loads. The emax can only pitch a single sample up a limited range.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
