Hiya all. I'm new to this and sort of ignorant of mechanical things in
general, but I'm hoping someone here might have insight to a couple of
problems w/my EmaxII.

1. The pitch wheel doesn't work. The modulation wheel works fine but the
Pitch wheel not at all. It springs back as it should but has no effect on
the sound. I've made sure it is set to "on." I've tried to re-set the
values (up/down/middle) but it doesn't show any change while I'm trying to
set them and it still doesn't work at all afterward. I've also opened it up
and looked inside for any obvious problems (something disconnected that
shouldn't be, etc.) but as far as my admittedly ignorant eye can see
everything seems okay. Any ideas?

2. Sometimes the release of a sound gets mucked up. I'll be using a sound
meant to have a quick release, but instead it'll keep playing (sometimes as
long as a full second) after I lift my finger(s) off the key(s). I go in
and look at the release setting and the parameter of the sound is set where
it should be. Then, usually a few seconds or minutes later, it suddenly
starts playing just fine, as if nothing was ever wrong. What's the deal?

Much thanks in advance for anyone's comments/suggestions.

Ashley

It sounds like a re-callibration problem to me if not you should
have the Pitch Wheel pot checked out with an ohm meter to see that it
is not open. If it is you'll have to replace it. Also perform a
continuity check on the wires to the connector to the main board. In
the users manual there is a procedure to re-callibrate the Pitch
Wheel follow it closely. Does your pitch change when the Emax II is
slave to another Keyboard (Midi)? Try it and see.
The users manual has a lot of diagnostic material in it that you
can use. Of course for #2 its a mystery to me you will probably have
to take it in for repair. Emu uses two processors one of which handle
the keyboard and buttons and the other handles the actual sound
genertation. It may very well be that the keyboard and button input
processor section is to blame. Key on, key off, sliders, wheels etc...
Best,
Skip
