EMAX II Slim Floppy + CF Drive (Thank You Ted!)

EMAX II Slim Floppy + CF Drive (Thank You Ted!)

2009-02-18 by pauldays1

Hello Board,

Well after my EMAX IIs Disk Drive failed, I searched in here for
solutions, and I must really really give major kudos to Ted Summers,
he is a awesome asset to our Emax Group.

I was getting ready to get a Disk Drive from Route 66, after failing
to modify a Sony Drive. Since I also wanted some mass storage (albeit
SCSI Hard Drive) I decided to do Teds' mods.

Easy as pie, works like a charm!

I did do somethign different. I didn't modify anything, no brackets,
nothing. I used double sided tape, installed the CF Drive upside
down. The install looks original! If you send me emails, I can sent
some pics!

PS- One has to go out and buy the IDE cables (2) and an extra "Y"
adapter for the power.

Cheers,

Paul

The CF drive is a Startech.com drive, after PC Connection not wanting
to use my credit card for purchase (stating I am not one of their
customers, and I am), I searched and found the DELL carries this.
Also they have the best price, 28.63! cheaper than even at the
manufactures site (volume people). I have a friend @ Dell, so you can
order it through him:

Lucas_Hayaux@Dell.com
(800) 289-3355x 9460475

Tell him Polibio Diaz says Hi, LOL.

PS-Remember to get 2 IDE cables.

do you install your CF reader in the Emax II rack? if so, does it fit fine
in the chassis slot without having to make it wider? i ended up getting a
Zip100 drive which i haven't put in yet for various reasons, one of which
being that it's just a little bit wider than the 3.5" cutout slot of my Emax
rack.

i did get the slim floppy put in and working (thanks to Ted of course) only
to find out my Emax is not playing the full 8 voices which only means more
problems... so i'm at a stand still until i find out *somehow* if it's a
replaceable part or the E-chip. i almost feel like i should just pony up
the money for another Emax and use the one i have now for spares...

Anyways, here's a pic of my Emax with the slim drive installed in (sorry for
the bad quality, my camera's battery died before i had a chance to take
better pics). no mods (like you) were done to mount the drive - i simply
took some silicone (glue for aquariums) and glued it to the top of the
chassis. ha... works fine being that the slim floppy is lightweight -
although i wouldn't trust it going out to a gig or out of my bedroom
studio... ;)

Cheers,

Brooks

PS - just want everyone to know that Ted is THE MAN - he has been selflessly
giving, making up these SCSI kits, slim floppy converter, etc., and
answering multiple questions i have asked him... THANKS TED!!!!!

Folks-

Thanks for your support.

I know it can be a concern trusting someone off a forum.
Sending cash and all, and I am glad that (so far as I know) I haven't
let anyone down.

Best Regards,
Ted
