More samples for the Emax/Emaxll and stereo upgrade kits

2009-02-21 by Richard

Hey all

As promised I have sourced every Emu factory Emax/Emaxll sample for
the 4 Elements of sound CDs from Hermann's site posted/linked here and
originally from Diego's old site, my old collection and various Emax
users over the last few years.

I have painstakingly researched and replaced all the missing and
corrupted ZD files with the correct and working samples and will be
posting them to the Route 66 site for individual downloads in the next
few weeks...it's just a matter of getting them uploaded now.

For the Emax ll users...I have also put all the samples back in order
of the respected Elements of sound CDs and burned them to ISO Emu Emax
ll formatted CDs so they can be used in a SCSI CD drive connected to
the Emax ll, I have made them available on the www.Route66studios.com
site under new products.

Keep in mind that CD 1 is all 1mg samples, CD 2 is all 2mg samples, CD
3 is all 4mg samples, and if you're lucky enough to have the 8mg Emax
ll turboÂ…CD 4 is all 8mg samples!

I am now working on the Emax ll stereo upgrade kits for those of us
who were not blessed with the stereo feature. I have a factory boxed
upgrade kit and I am duplicating and sourcing the ICs and parts, I may
need a few testers when the time comes.

Hi Rich....
If you need the E-mu Systems Stereo Upgrade Manual let me know off
list..rob@...
You'll need to find the ADC and DAC chips but not sure how you are going to
replicate the PAL?

Hey Rob
Thanks....fortunately the kit I received was still in the box and came with the upgrade manual, the PAL in this case I can reprogram but I am on the search for the ADC and the DCA.

Rob
There is one thing I would like to know....when and if I find these parts the more I buy the better deal I can get and the cheaper I can make the upgrade kit available....but I wonder how many units were made without the stereo feature? If I had a number It would make the purchase easy.

Emax Manufacturing Volumes

2009-02-21 by rob

Hi,
Manufacturing volumes of the Emax are hard to tell...possibly 4000 - 6000.
Not as many as E-mu Systems expected.
Possibly first 500 - 1000 were mono. Maybe 50 - 100 still in existence. I
think you might sell 10 - 15 kits depending on price.

Re: [emax] Emax Manufacturing Volumes- SCSI upgrade

2009-02-21 by Ted Summers

Rob-

Same question goes for me and the SCSI kits.
How many Emax 1s out there probably don't have SCSI and approx how
many are rev1 that can't be upgraded?

I have sold 18 kits so far.

I just bought another 20 controllers.
But it would be silly for me to buy another 20 controllers when these
run out if there is no need.

Ted

Hummm well that's good news for anyone looking for a stereo Emax ll but maybe bad news for putting making an update kit available. Well.....I will do it anyway, new projects are always fun.

RE: [emax] Emax Manufacturing Volumes- SCSI upgrade

2009-02-21 by rob

Hi ,
Similar numbers.... factory SCSI is rare maybe 500.
Rev1 boards - probably 1000 - 2000 Emax made.
100 - 150 still alive, so I'd expect 50 kits to be sold.
Its a very desireable upgrade, so could go higher 60-70 over 2 years of
selling.
You'll get a rush of orders after the first few months as people see if
works, then it will tale off to a steady state as new owners of Emax's scan
the internet.

I have sold maybe 60 SD4E2 cables. I don't expect to sell many more as every
active E2 owner has one...
