1) The pin 29 is a master / slave designation pin on tne IDE Interface
when using CABLE SELECT for IDE bus. If you have jumpered master you
shouldn't need this pin.
It isn't required to be there.
or you should get a different IDE cable that matches the connection.
2) The Acard 7220U bridge board I have used with an IDE CF drive and
also a Zip drive in my Emax rack without issue.
One thing of note- there is a firmware update for the Acard bridge
board.
Previous versions of the firmware can result in Hard Disk Error
messages.
Make sure your bridge has the latest firmware.
To update it, you put it in a PC with a drive attached and run the
updater.
The updater is in windows.

Ted

Update: after an e-mail of another Emax user, I checked the current
internals of my CF CARD.
It seems that the "good" board which I received a few weeks ago - and
which is still not working with my Emax - is in fact NOT an R-IDSC-E/R
v1.28.
After removing the SCSIForSamplers labels on it, I discovered it's an
even older IDSC21-E board from 1999.
Also, the Acard AEC7720U board seems to have been tested with the CF
Card board from the CF CARD before by another Emax user. And also with
that adapter board, the Emax-I is not supported. It results in the
same error ("Hard Disk Error").
And as I mentioned before, the 2006 R-IDSC-E/R v1.30.9 is not working
either, and someone else tried a 2009 board which also doesn't work.
So I am really wondering now which CF CARD version has ever supported
the Emax-I ?
Or would the problem be caused by a change of the CF Card board in the
drive, and not only by the IDE/SCSI adapter board ?

one didn't work with any of the old Emu (up to IIIX) and Ensoniq (all)
samplers. So then I received the "good" board - and indeed it's a
better one but still the Emax-I and Ensoniq EPS Classic are not
supported.

connector doesn't accept all 40 male pins of the CF card board in the
unit; one hole is factory-closed on the 7720. Could I just remove the
corresponding pin from the CF card board or is this pin important for
use with non-Acard boards ?

will be a solution again and they are hot swappable they work with the

rolands they also work with the acard7720 which do work with the emax1/2
