Prob

2010-04-17 by ditabeardmemo

Hi everyone:

I recently purchased a new copy of the Greytsounds Emax II library CDR, and converted all the banks to .EB2 image files (using EMXP, of course) so that I could transfer them to CompactFlash cards.

When EMXP listed the contents of the CD-R, however, it identified Bank 97 ("Orchestral Brass") as corrupt. I could neither copy nor convert this bank, nor see its contents.

Does anyone know why this might be, and if there is a workaround? More importantly, does anyone have a copy of this bank for the Emax II that is working?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi

I had the same problem with this bank. It's a error with the sequences. If you go into sequencer setup and erase the tracks you'll be able to convert it without any problems.

Indeed, it's a problem with the sequences and removing them will solve the problem - that doesn't hurt since there are no sequences programmed in that bank.

FYI: the errorcodes are shortly explained in the EMXP manual (page 44 in latest version). Bank error 3 means problem with sequence addresses.

I just tested this bank in my Emax-II and the bank is indeed corrupt. If you try to select sequence S09 and press PLAY, the Emax-II will crash. It's the S09 address which is corrupt in the bank data.

When designing EMXP I knew that EMXP was going to be very strict/intolerant in its validations whether to accept or not accept banks and files.
The question is to what extent EMXP should "allow" corrupt banks.
EMXP contains a set of validation routines which look for some patterns in Emax files and banks to make sure it's really an Emax compliant file or bank. EMXP has to do it like this, because Emax files/banks don't carry a "universal" identifier/stamp proving it is an original Emax file/bank.
The sequence address logic test is one of those EMXP validation routines :)

Very informative! Thanks to both e-synthesist and Rob for your troubleshooting advice.

Unfortunately for me, I do not own a SCSI CD-Rom unit that I can connect to my Emax II. I use EMXP and CF cards for all my bank storage. As such, I cannot load the bank directly to the Emax and remove the corrupted sequencer tracks.

Is there someone who can send me a "clean" version of this bank as a .EB2 file? Or even a floppy disk image with the corrupted version that I can edit myself?

Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Best,
DBM

Re: Prob

I see.

What you also can do is make a "backup image" of the full Greytsounds CD with EMXP and "restore" this image to a CF card with EMXP (a 512MB one or larger). The result is that you'll have the original CD on your CF card ! Which means you'll even be able to use the original corrupt bank :)

Don't forget to format the CF card first in the Emax II. You can power off your Emax II once the "verification" phase starts - this way you can avoid the additional 1 hour formatting time on the Emax-II:)

Re: Emulator 3 question

2010-04-22 by ditabeardmemo

Hi David:

Given that this is an E-mu Emax discussion group, you might be better off posting this question at either http://www.eiiiforum.com/ or the Emulator III Yahoo users group. There are some very helpful regulars over at the Emulator forum in particular, and the site covers many different models (not just the Emulator III).

That said, there are several people on this e-mail list who also own the Emulator III (myself among them), so you may find some help here. Unfortunately, I'm not a technical expert on these complex machines, and a dead voice can be caused by many different problems.

In any case, good luck!

DBM
