It's simple. Assign the two samples to the same unique group. And then 
set the polyphony of that group to 1 voice.

  Yes. (I still use my Samplecell card occasionally believe it or 
not....). It basically works the same way. It involves assigning the two 
samples to the same SC instrument. And then making that instrument 
monophonic. You could then further limit the key note range of that 
instrument; then create other instruments set to that same midi channel 
that were polyphonic. That way you could play the whole kit from one 
midi channel/instrument in Logic and trigger everything as you want. The 
SC "instruments" served the same role as the "groups" do in EXS.

No need to do this. It's the wrong approach for what you want to do.

It refers to internal aux objects in Logic. In the EXS editor, you set 
the outputs of the groups as you like. Then create aux objects in Logic 
and set their inputs to correspond with those multi outs you have set in 
your multi-output  EXS instruments.
