I think this isn't possible, but you can get close: When you select a new arrange track containing an exs instrument, double-click (or cmd-opt-double-click - thanks for that tip!) the exs plug-in in the channel strip at the bottom of the arrange window parameters. Provided that your "link" button is engaged, your exs window will update to the newly selected exs instrument. I think the extra click is required because, as has been remarked, the exs is a plug-in, and this is the way that plug-ins link.
