Sorry, you misunderstood. I was suggesting exactly the opposite.

Again:

Buy a FW interface and run it of the internal built-in FW port

Get a cheap $40 PCMCIA FW controller (this is a little card that will 
add more FW ports to the PCMCIA) and run the drives there.

If I'm still not clear, please ask again.
