No, they are wav files as soon as you expand them.

Excuse my ignorance, but, the isn't the Akai site raw data in Akai format?

You provide the  EXS instruments, but doesn't the raw data still have to be
converted to aif or wav files?

 You can get the raw sample data from ftp.akaipro.co.jp
 It is there. I have downloaded it from them as have several other
 people. Yes, it takes bloody ages. Cope.

 You need to grab the raw sample data yourself.
