To be a bit more specific: AKAI has wisely purchased a license from microsoft to use msdos as the fileformat for the s5000/s6000, and wav as the raw audio data format. This means that all AKAI sample cds for these samplers will be instantly read by a pc or a mac, and it also means that you can finish your samples in the audio editor of your choice, then transfer them to the sampler without any conversion problems what so ever. This is really nice, something I enjoy every time I use my s5000 - to be honest, I haven't even tried the sample input jacks on the sampler; for what I know they may not be working at all, I wouldn't know since I always transfer wavefiles directly from my PC hd to the s5000, using USB. It also means that s5000 samples will be instantly understood by any softsampler, such as the EXS24. I have downloaded all the samples now, and tried out a few programs on my s5000. I am not terribly impressed with all of them, but there are a lot of nice ones around, and it has been well worth the effort. I am really looking forward to try them out in EXS too. James, thanx so much for your work here - that is truly impressing!!! We could all learn a lot from this example of community spirit here, and to judge from the posts on this list in the last few days, we already have. Nice. To those of you who has been complaining about not getting thru to AKAI ftp: you really have to just keep trying. Sooner or later, someone will sign off, leaving an empty spot for you. I sometimes had to try 7 or 8 times with a minute in between before getting through. I can still only recommend using ftpexplorer (pc) for the download, which will allow you to download everything by the archive, instead of file by file, and it will also let you resume broken downloads. Also, it can let you keep trying to connect for a specified number of times (hammering), which actually was what got me through every time. Available for free on the www, probably on places like http://www.download.com. Enjoy your downloads. regards monsdrum
