Re: [exs] Akai to EXS24 Conversions and Attenuation -6db average?

2002-09-15 by Ned Bouhalassa

FWIW, I like the -6db setting on average, but I'll adjust it later
depending on the instrument. One thing to consider is how many instruments
you're planning to mix together. When I do a 'beat' piece
(techno/rock/pop/jazz, etc), I might bring up the individual EXS
instruments, but when I do a tv/film orchestral cue, I find that I have to
lower them because of the number of parts and how these add up in the
master output. That's why I find that -6 is a good middle ground. Of
course, some samples are given to us at a 'low' level: I'm thinking of
Miroslav Vitous' collection (can you say, overpriced?!!!), some of the
loops in Peter Erskine's Living Drums, etc.

In the end, I wouldn't worry about it much, as you can always change the
individual vol settings after the fact in the EXS window.
