Although I agree with you that there is some 'ego' involved here, it is also about survival. What Apple and Steve Jobs would like you to do (as witnessed by their ad campaign at the moment) is switch from PC to Mac. Releasing an intel-based OSX version gives you *no* incentive whatsoever to do this. From a business point of view, it does not make any sense since Apple sells hardware. Now, if Apple got completely out of the hardware market and only created software, then that would be a different thing. I'm sure that you would then see OSX for Intel-based machines.
