That did the trick.  Thanks so much!

I notice that the output is into two files labeled .aif and .air (which 
I assume means aif left and aif right?).  Two follow up questions:

1. Is there a setting whereby the stereo output can be directed into a 
single aif stereo file?
2. When I try to convert the separate l and r files to a stereo file, I 
usually get "no split files selected" despite that I clicked on them.  
I got it to convert once, but don't realize exactly what I did. (a) 
What is the procedure to convert to stereo file?  (b) Whenever I've 
done audio, the suffix .aif appears, but not this time.  Why? And is 
this really an aif file?
