I never tried it, but would suspect to have heard more complaints if this is true. I'm way too busy right now to look into it, but maybe someone else knows more about it? Any takers? And yes, you could indeed use the environment to transform note-ons into note-offs. Fairly simple in fact, although I wouldn't resort to such a workaround unless I was 100% sure that it's needed.
