I noticed this. I solved the problem by finding that the instrument that it kept crashing on wasn't really loading correctly anyway. it was a bad conversion from either Translator or the direct AKAI Import. Once I removed that bad EXS instrument file from the hard drive (sample instruments) it did not crash and instead went on to the next instruments. Not sure if my problem is the same as yours, but if it is, then at least I was able to fix it.
