Here is a list of instruments in the VSL Performance Set:

As you can see, it looks like the Perf. Set has the full basic 
orchestra library itself.  Others have asked if the Perf. Set is needed 
if one already has the Cube.  But I'd like to turn it around: ... can 
one do a reasonably good job using JUST the Perf. Set, or are the 
instruments listed above only sampled for certain types of "performance 
elements" like runs, repetitions, etc.?

In other words, if one has the Perf. Set, is the Cube also *needed* to 
make an orchestral performance?  (Obviously, I have neither one.  But I 
have ordered the Perf. Set already.)
