EXS24/EXSP24 + Protools Mix + MacOS 9.2

EXS24/EXSP24 + Protools Mix + MacOS 9.2

2003-12-14 by seaviewseaworld

Is there a way of running the EXS24 as a stand alone app and
triggered
from a Protools midi track? We have the ESB. Also I can select the
EXS24 as a direct connect-able plug-in but cannot find a standalone
EXS24 app.
Is that what the EXSP24 is? Or is that just for use with VST?
Phew!! I'm about as confused as I can get with this one......
Ideally I just want to run Protools with the EXS24 as a standalone
OMS
accessible plug-in. Triggered from a midi track in Protools and
returning on an Aux or Audio track in the Protools mixer. Is that
just
a dream?
Any ideas?

I'm no expert, but hear is some info to help ya out..

EXS24 = Native Logic Only

EXSP24 = VST Instrument Only

None of these run standalone.

FXpansion VST/VST Instrument -> RTAS Wrapper (so you can run EXSP24
and other VST Instrument in Pro Tools) = $99

EXSP24 (if you don't own it) is on sale at AudioMidi.com for $120

Alternatively I think you can get EXS24 to work as part of Emagic's
System Bridge (ESB). Since I do not use ESB I don't know enough
about it but perhaps it's an another possibility for you.

Good luck!

There is no stand alone EXS24. Emapple have chosen to sell it only as
part of Logic. Its the main reason i dropped it ages ago as my sampler.
With the ESB you can access the EXS24 from within a Logic/PTools hardware
setup. It works well, though some people find the initial setup difficult.

Its a VST plugin that is a playback-only version of the EXS24. There
are some parameters available to tweak like adsr and filter i believe,
but you cant save any settings.

Emagic have always had a convoluted way of doing things :-)

Forget the EXS24 if you dont use Logic as your main seq. Look
at MachFive by Motu - it is cross-platform and supports rtas, hdtdm,
vst, au, dxi, mas and imports exs24 progs as well as just about
everything else. Its a beast of a sampler and by far the best out there
imho.

Huh? I don't think that's right. All the ADSR, LFO, etc. settings on the
front of the GUI are saveable as a preset.

Ok - i was thinking - these settings would probably get saved as part of the
song file anyway. More importantly, with regard to the original post, the
EXSP24 is not for creating samples/programs etc. I only looked at it for
about 2 seconds.
