I have tried the "XMAS" code, but no-luck/no-35% off!

I wanted to order the full "SAM" set (Horns/Trombones/Trumpets), as well as
Quantum Leap Brass EMU.

I just tried. For the SAM Set, I couldn't get it to work either.
However, there are other titles which I could apply it to. Perhaps you
should give them a call or email. The QL Brass EMU format is on sale
currently as part of their December sale. You won't be gettng an
additional 35% off on it but it is currently at a phenomenal price ($99
US). I ordered it a few days ago myself since it is such an awesome
deal.

It should work. I've never had trouble with Soundsonline's specials.
Have you tried contacting them directly? AFAIK, the only things that
are not on special are the EWQL libraries...

Re: [EXS] SoundsOnline Xmas sale

I have experienced unpredictable result when converting from Emu or Akai to
EXS24, either using CDXtract or the EXS24 itself. It depends on the
material/CDs, not everything gets converted properly, sometimes you get missing
instruments/samples from the original. Thus, Quantum Leap Brass comes in different
flavour (Akai, Giga, Emu...), and I am not to sure which of these format would be
the "safest" to go for, to get best result.

Advice appreciated,

LG

Cheers Garth, is there a demo available for Chick/Sys?
I would like to do an A/B comparison with CDXtract on the same CD.

I would go for the Giga version, as it has keyswitching which the EXS-24
supports, and also doesn't impose memory restrictions, which is not
compelling for the EXS either. Akai will restrict memory, which you don't
want. The Emu likely will impose real-time programming which the EXS
probably can't handle.

However, Giga won't "go to town" on the programming, will give you large
samples, adn supply keyswitching which you can handle as well.

As far as conversion goes, Translator www.chickensys.com never drops any
instruments/samples from any Emu or Akai setup, unless the Bank or
Program/Volume is corrupted in the first place. However, if ever it does or
seems like it does, you are free to submit it to one our 257 holiday
support staffers (okay, I'm kidding) and we'll check it out and send you a
holiday chocolate gift bag as a friendly thank you.

I agree with Garth. I think getting CDs in Giga provides the best
results and give the most flexibility. I drop the Giga files into
my "Sampler Instruments" directory and they automatically show up in
the EXS24. Of course the first time you select a sample the EXS24
converts it, but it does this so well I don't see the need to use
another application. Just make sure after everything is converted
you delete the old Giga file otherwise you're using up double the
disk space.

Mark

The GIGA version is on sale as well but not discounted as much as the
E-mu version ($199 vs $99). It all depends on whether or not you want
to pay the extra for the easier conversion since the GIGA version is
programmed to include various velocity levels and articulations in the
same program whereas I believe that the E-mu version does not (in order
to save memory). You're not getting any more samples on the GIGA
version than on the E-mu version - just the combined programs. Myself,
I went for the E-mu version and took the extra price break. I tend to
program my own patches anyway and rarely use the programs as they come
directly off of the sample CD.

Fernstudio

Re: [EXS] SoundsOnline Xmas sale

BTW, I managed to get the 35% off (thanks to you again)

For the "Sam-set" (Tromb/Horn/Trump), you simply have to "add to cart" one by
one
without using the option where they offer 10 or 20% if you buy two or three
CDs...
Quantum Leap Brass Giga did qualify for the 35% off as well. So in total I
ordered four different titles, three "Sams" and one "Quantum".
For some reason, choosing the Emu version over the Giga, only saved $30/£20!

Well, I really look forward to get my hands on those Roms and hopefully,
getting those horns to "Funk-up" the hell out of my grooves.

The great thing about all that, is that was just looking around for some good
horns at a sensible price lately, you made my day (well, my Christmas... ;-)

A big thank to Ned as well, cause with the "free samples" link he gave use, I
was able to check out the Sam stuff, which I wasn't aware of those horns
library.

Thousand thanx again for the Xmas tips, and for the one who belive, let's
praise the Lord.

Peace

LG
