Logic unexpectedly quitting

Logic unexpectedly quitting

2004-01-10 by Hans Hafner

Hi there,

I have experienced this a couple of times now and it even ruined one
of my live shows (fortunately it wasn't a big or important one)

I set up a song with EXS instances, everything plays fine, no
overloads just perfect. Then I quit logic, reload the song and as
soon as I try to play a channel with an EXS on it, boom, "Try to save
your song". Even when I hit play it will do this if there are
sequences running on an EXS channel.

It is really annoying and I can't really see, why it should be like
this. The only explanation I could come up with is, that the fact
that the samples are on a FW drive that is plugged in after my audio
interface (MobileIO), maybe that's it. Also, disabling virtual memory
and reloading songs works, but then, aren't I missing a very
important feature?

Cheers
Hans

I have had the exact same problem with the EXS and crashing with the "try to save
your song" (which never works, BTW...).
Called Emagic and they suggested I ENABLE virtual memory! Just the opposite of your
situation...this has not fixed the problem. Very, very annoying and time consuming. I
have to reload all instruments and samples one by one and then the song will play.
Anybody?
thanks

Come on, are we the only two people that this happens to? I can't
believe that! Speak up, if it is indeed something that happens to
more, maybe we can get it fixed sooner.

Happens to me often. Logic and the whole computer will lockup ...sometimes
if I walk away for a few minutes, requiring forced power off and reboot. I
practice months of advice (repair permissions, crons, current drivers, no
internet/Airport, screen saving, keyboard lighting etc., etc..... to little
avail.

PB G4/1G ram/10.3.2/LAP 6.3.2/ Multiface/LaCie FW 800.

none of those solutions will work because the problem is in the Logic.

Emagic knows it's software is a bugfest right now. I bet they are out there
in Cupertino right now working on fixing all the bugs and updating the GUI
to look like something fun. With all the help they must be getting from
Apple, I bet they also have time to work in a couple of new Audio
Instruments. We won't get to benefit from the fixes until they are done and
there's a major trade show...

NAMBLOGA is soon

(National Man Boy Love of Gear Association)

maybe then we will see the fruits of the Magic Apple

I can only hope that you are right.

I've recently had a lot of crashes with EXS in OSX.
They would occur after loading a song and then pressing play. I got the
beachball and then the Try To Save Your Song msg.
I believe 6.3.x are buggy versions that should have never been
released. I went back to 6.0.1 and no crashes since.
This is on Logic Gold btw.
There aren't really any features or bug fixes in the 0.3 upgrades
anyway.
It seems like they're just wanting to justify a whole point release
soon.
I hope Emagic get on this very soon (before the next paid upgrade) as
it really ruins Logic's reputation of being a stable program.

I have just gotten a response from Emagic (sent the request on
Monday, got the result today on Thursday...) telling me to go through
a days worth of uninstalling, reinstalling and checking... well...

But the worst is, they claim, that no one else has reported this problem.

Please, mail it to them and tell them that we are pretty upset about
it! Put the pressure on, they can't ignore their clients forever.

And I must vent a little bit about their tech support, it's standard
pre-collected answers all the way, and it's starting to get on my
nerves a lot. I think I will have to do the 3 hour trip over to
Hamburg and talk to them in person and show them my setup... I don't
think they really know how people work and use this thing. And
usually those people don't have the time to discuss and send back
feedback, so they just move on to get the results for their clients...

Anyway, back to work!

Cheers
Hans

Please, please, please! Everybody that this is happening to: Send
this to Emagic. Tech support just wrote back to me that they have
never heard of this behaviour.

Telling me to go through 3 hours of moving prefs, uninstalling and
reinstalling and did it help? Yes for about a day then this totally
obnoxious quitting is back.

Also, send them your crashlogs. I am so mad at this people not
recognizing what they're putting creative people through!

Sorry, will stop the rant.

But I think Emagic needs to be flooded with every little problem. I
hate this ignorance! Who am I? A Leecher? No, I forked over 1900
Euros... ahhh damn

Cheers and hope you have a better weekend than I

in OS 9.2 this worked:

Have you tried increasing the amount of memory allocated to Logic? I
tired this and it solved the problem - go to the relevant Logic
program version and go to info - choose memory and update the amount
of memory allocated.

I believed this was no longer necessary for OS X.

But maybe if you still have older versions resident in the orginal
folder maybe its getting confused - move the older versions into a
folder out of the way if not trash them.........

?
