Drum Sample Loading and Programming

Drum Sample Loading and Programming

2004-01-11 by Synthology

Greetings all,

I just wanted to know how everyone here programs their custom
drum samples on the EXS24. I'm not sure if its like this for
everyone, but for me, browsing through drum samples on the EXS24 is
painfully slow. It seems to take about 1-2 seconds to load and
preview the drum samples. Is their another way to load drum samples
into zones? Also, how can you get Hi-Hats to choke on different
velocity groups. I know how to do it for one group and 1 note
polyphony, but how can you do it for, let's say, a 6 layer velocity
hi-hat group?

I guess what I'm looking for is to preview drum samples quickly
before I load them, similiar to all other soft samplers can. I
really would much rather use EXS24 for drums because of its
stability as opposed to AU-VST wrapped RMIV, NI Battery and Ritmo.
Thanks in advance for the help.

[EXS] midi oddness

2004-01-11 by Julie Larson

Hi everyone,
I upgraded to panther last week. Seemed painless enough. Today I took
my laptop to a gig along with my mt4. I plugged into a keyboard and
started Logic up. I play the keyboard...mt4 sees midi....Logic doesn't
see the mt4. I go to my preferences and "reset all midi drivers" This
usually fixes issues like this. I opened Audio Midi setup and the mt4
is dimmed in the application...the mt4 is offline. I redo the hookups
...no luck. I rescan for midi devices...no luck. The mt4 is still
recieving midi. Logic doesn't see the mt4. I checked the emagic site
and was assured that the mt4 is still compatible with panther. I
thought I might need to download a driver or something. What is going
on? any clues?

By the way. When I got back home and plugged everything in...the
problem followed me.

Thanks in advance,
julie

I'm running Panther 10.3.2 with Logic 6.3.2.

Hi Julie

This question is really more suited for the main Logic Users Group -
I suggest you post it over there

kind regards

You're probably right Mark...you guys are just so responsive.
Anyway...I solved the problem. midi drivers. I had just assumed that
new drivers for emagic interfaces would be included in upgrades to
Logic...

Thanks,
julie

Glad you solved it so quickly. FTR, I am running an MT4 and have booted into
Panther with Logic and it all worked fine (although I still work in OS 9
when doing "real work").

Yes, I made sure to get the latest midi drivers from the Emagic site. I was
going to offer to email them to you in case you couldn't access them. Glad
to see it's not necessary.

That is the version I am using. AFAIK, it is the most current one available;
and it works fine with my MT4 in Panther.

Isn't there a 'play' button in the file-open dialog? Or is this only
the case when opening samples in the sample editor?

If you have 6 velo-layered zones and assign them all to the same
group (which thus consists of just those 6 zones), can't you simply
set the group's polyphony to 1 then?

I guess the trick is to make up the prgrams full of drum smaples
beforehand and save them off that way all you have to do to chekc out
different sounds is to move from one program to another within the
sampler.

Its really HUGELY easy to load up samples into a program when in edit
mode - and let the EXS24 choose its own note values.....

re the choke issue - just make sure that you put all the hihats into
the same group and make sure it is set to mono (1 note only) that way
at any one time you will only get one of the samples playing - just
like real life! :O)
