Other samplers' compatibility with EXS/OS9

Other samplers' compatibility with EXS/OS9

2004-03-06 by steinway03

Hello.

I'm hearing good things about Reason, Kontact and other samplers (is
that the correct term?). I'm noticing that a significant number of
the samples I'm interested in are available in these formats and not
necessarily EXS. Can anyone comment about the ability to move between
some of these samplers and EXS? Or maybe there's a way to interface
between these samplers and Logic (which would admittedly make it off
topic for the EXS group)? I'm using OS9, so for the moment VST isn't
an option. Also, I'm using Logic 5.5.0. Would Logic 6 make a
difference? Sorry if these are stupid questions.

Cheers,
Larry

Excuse me? Logic/OS9 is very well capable of using VST/VSTi's. It's
Logic/OSX that can't use VST's (except when you use a wrapper that
converts them to AU's).

Oops! Of course you are correct, Hendrik. Do you know if any of the
samplers in question are compatible with Logic/OS9? Or does one have
to go the translation route?

Cheers,
Larry

I'm still confused... What translation route? If you have some VST
sampler, you can simply dump it in the VstPlugIns folder in the
Logic/OS9 application folder, and they should show up as available
instruments.
In Logic/OSX you need to use the AU-versions ofsuch samplers, or use
the vst-wrapper (3rd party, by whomever) to convert OSX-VST's to
AU's. The conversion needs Carbonized (OSX) VST's and won't work
with OS9-VST's.
