EXSP24 and Enviroments? Any one?

EXSP24 and Enviroments? Any one?

2004-05-04 by jazdout_productions

Hello. I am using the EXSP24 with Logic 6 Platinum os9 (G4 466 896 MB ram). I have
been trying to create an enviroment that will allow me to control the EXSP24 in
realtime via my Midi controller. I have found through posts and triaal and error that
the EXSp24 doesnot respond to any controller Data listed in its manual. (If i am wrong
somebody please psot a working enviroment) The EXP24 does however respond to
Fader Messages... Sort Of...

The EXSP24 responds to Fader Messages for somethings only on the first channel.

Ex. Level Via Velocity is Fader Message Ch 2 -1- 32 and the Value

But then Level velocity is not accessable on any pther channels. Most of the other
things ie. LFO, Attack Sustain and stuff liek that are accesable on Channels 1 and 2
also using Fader Messages (not controller messages liek the manual says) Channels 3
through 16 do not respond to anything.

Can anyone share anything about this or how to work around it or anything they have
discoverd? Basically I would like to creat a small mixer with 16 faders each one
controlling the "level via Velocity" for each channel. And I would also liek to be able to
control LFo and Attach and Resonace and all that good stuff from my midi controller?

Any one? Thanks a bunch

Pete

The EXS parameters respond only to fader messages on channel 2.

EXS listens always in channel 2. This EXS communication channel has
nothing to do with the midi channel of the audio intrument object. If
you have more audio instruments with EXS you have to cable your faders
to each instance. If you want simultaneousely control of all EXS
instances you have to use a fader-set for each of them. If one-by-one
is enough you can use one fader-set and switch it to the different
audio objects.

> Ex. Level Via Velocity is Fader Message Ch 2 -1- 32 and the Value

The upper slider is Fader Ch2 32, value 0-96
The lower slider is Fader Ch2 33, value 0-96

Your midi controller should have scaleable values to avoid values above
96 or you scale it in the environment. Higher values do not hurt the
EXS but you would have a 'dead range' between 96 and 127 where the
velocity is at the max.

Some tricky environment work rises up if you want to control the upper
AND the lower part of splitted faders (like with velocity). Upper
slider must be always higher then the lower one and vice versa. If you
do not deal with this you get sudden jumps.

Like explained above, the EXS works only via channel 2. Are you sure
that you can work with channel 1? This should not be possible...

The deal with fader messages is: a message on channel 1 is received
by the mixer strip itself, channel 2 is used to control the virtual
instrument, channels 3 and up are used to control the 1st (and up)
effects inserts. I.e. the 1st effect inserts responds to ch.3, the
2nd to ch.4., etc.

To complicate matters: if you have a regular track mixer strip (no
virtual instrument), the 1st effect slot responds to channel *2*
instead of 3, etc.

In order to figure out which fader messages corresponds to which
button in a plug-in, cable from the mixer strip into a new Monitor
object. Wiggle the button and watch the Monitor: you should see
something like 'F 2 12 67', meaning: fader message, channel 2,
type-byte (-1-) = 12, value = 67. Now transform the incoming
controller data (from e.g. a fader pack) into Fader-12, channel 2.

Note that the transformer which converts controllers into fader
events should be the *very last* object in the chain and should be
cabled into the mixer strip directly. Any intervening objects will
break the functionality.

If you want to get fancy, you might consider downloading my
autodemo.zip (logic section of my website) which demonstrates how to
use an external faderbox to control plug-ins and record track based
automation, including some tricks with presets & stuff...

Re: [EXS] blue highlighted audio files

OK....I think I should be embarrassed about this. I've been using
Logic for years so I'm certain I should know about this....but.
Yesterday I was working with some pieces of audio files in the arrange
window. I did some kind of keyboard command....I haven't been able to
duplicate it....and the audio files in that track turned blue.
Well....I don't mind blue....but it makes it impossible to edit the
files in the arrange window. It seems to allow me to program
automation for individual pieces of audio files...that's nice...but I
don't need to do that right now. Please tell me what function I've
enabled and how to turn it off. Thanks a bunch

sheepishly,
julie

Sounds like hyperdraw. With default key mappings, F12 will turn
it off. Otherwise, from the window menu, View->Hyper Draw->off

Julie,

Why not open your "Undo History" and undo the changes up to that point?

Thanks everyone for your help! It was hyperdraw.
