From what I know, some keycommands are "hardwired" to some plugin functions.
This might be one of those. I'm almost sure it will only happen if the EXS
is your focussed window, right?

not exactly, it happens when I'm working in the Matrix edit window of the (opened) EXS 
instance in question. 

I've double checked for redundant key command assignments and there are none, which is 
why I'm wondering if it is a bug. I'm aware that you can assign key commands to EXS edit 
window functions but as I understand the new EXS manual - there are no preset key 
commands for the EXS front panel - just midi cc type stuff.

I know - that's why I used the term "hardwired" in my post. Eventually you
just can't switch this off...
On Windows for example (which I am still using mainly), the numeric +/- keys
of the ES2 are assigned to parameter in/decrease, allways valid for the last
"touched" parameter. That's why I thought it could be similar with your EXS
problem.
