Re: [EXS] Is Soundfont format equal to AKAI ?

From what I know, the mappings and such should be pretty much similar in both AKAI and SF2 versions. Anything format related (such as filter settings) will usually be ignored (or not translated properly) during EXS import anyways. To me it even seems as if AKAI CDs cause more problems, as very often you'll find individual programs that need to be merged before you'd get a playable instrument. Soundfonts however sometimes look pretty much clogged up in the EXS editor - you may for instance find quite some velocity switching zones using the same samples. From what I know this is because soundfonts need to have some filter offset on a per zone base to get any filters going at all (on the "source" soundblaster cards that is). All these settings *could* theoretically be ignored by the EXS, but as the mapping just needs to be translated too (because you never know WHY there's some velocity switching going on), they aren't. From my own experience it seems that soundfonts import a tad better (or at least easier) than AKAI CDs - but don't take my word on this! - Sascha
