Re: [exs] oldee to Logic, newbee to EXS24--basic question

2001-06-23 by yael

I've got everything completed--the samples, etc. are working
nicely, all of the notes are in place, and everything sounds great.
Now, how do I make an .aif file of the result? How do I create an
audio file of this? I can't just bounce it to disk--or can I? Please
help--I'm working under a deadline for a client.
***********
Simple, Just press BOUNCE on the Master Fader...
u will see a window, just enter the Measures Start and End...
Logic run and create the Aiff where u want...
Watch u'r "preferences" before to be sure that AIFF format is selected...

In the master fader you press "B" for bounce to disk. You will get a prompt if you want to save it as a stereo file with sperate files for left and right, or a single interleaved file that's stereo. If you want it to be AIFF you must make sure your Audio Preferences are set to "AIFF". On Mac, it was set for SDII (Digidesign Sound Designer II) by default and I had to change it. By setting this to either SDII, AIFF, or WAV, this is the default Logic will use every time it creates an audio file.

BTW, you said you use Logic 4.7. You should grab 4.7.2 from the emagic site.. A few changes, but none to EXS24. Just an FYI.

Mark

Subject: [exs] oldee to Logic, newbee to EXS24--basic question

I'm very new to software synths/samplers, so please bear with
me. . .I'm also one of the countless who received EXS24 with a
manual in German (FYI--call the Emagic sales dept. and they'll
send you an English--language version gratis--I'm waiting on
mine), so I'm up a creek for the present.

  Thanks -
  Soo

PS - Logic Gold 4.7.0, Mac with sys. 8.6.

Re: [exs] oldee to Logic, newbee to EXS24--basic question

2001-06-25 by sooska@yahoo.com

Well, yes, I only *wish* this worked, but for some bizarre reason
it doesn't. I must've tried this thirty times before I decided to give
up and post the question to the list. Yes, this should be the way
it happens--but it doesn't and I'm going crazy trying to figure out
why.

Everything else is fine. I'm currently working on sound effects for
an animation company. Everything else bounces/saves/etc.
fine--except when I create something through the EXS24. It just
*won't* allow me to take the sequence I've created, play it with an
EXS24 sample (in this case, a frog sample--I'm making the of
them sing--don't ask. . .), and then save the result so I can get it
out to the client. I'm starting to have "this is what I get for putting
away the hardware sampler and working on the road" thoughts. .
.

There must be *something* not set right *somewhere*, as
everytime I hit bounce on the MF, I get a "nothing to bounce"
message in the bounce window. There *is* quite a bit to
bounce, though, and I'm having a horrible time trying to find out
what's telling Logic there's nothing to do.

Hence my problem. What should work, doesn't. Any
suggestions? I've got to get this figured out by the end of the day,
or I'll have to do one note at a time through the Time and Pitch
Machine and put it all together the long and difficult way
<shudder>. . .

Do you have any mutes or solos active? When you press play on the sequencer,
do you hear what you want to bounce playing?

Re: [exs] oldee to Logic, newbee to EXS24--basic question

2001-06-25 by Mark L. Holloway

Well, if you have a deadline of today, I strongly encourage you to call Emagic Tech Support. If you are in the States, use 10-10-220 because it's so cheap and the hold time could be long.

1) Have you tried bouncing with another song? Could your autoload song be messed up?

2) You could temporarily drag your Logic Preferences file out of the system fold and to the desktop. When you launch Logic it will act like it's launching for the first time and ask some questions (but you don't have to re-auth EXS24). Set up your EXS24 and paste in the midi track for it, but nothing else. Then bounce to disk.

Sometimes the Logic Preferences file gets weird and that's one of the first things emagic will have you do if you call them.. It happened to me once and it fixed everything.

Regards,
Mark

In order, "no" and "yes." Everything seems fine--except I can't
bounce the sequence to disk.

Re: [exs] oldee to Logic, newbee to EXS24--basic question

2001-06-25 by sooska@yahoo.com

It turns out it's not as "yikes-y" as it could have been. I just
updated the software from 4.7 to 4.7.2. . .and for some
inexplicable reason everything is peachy keen now. I can now
specify the measures to be bounced.

I don't understand it either, but I'm *happy*. My froggies are now
singing "Down by the old mill stream."

Thanks to *everyone* for the help! I'm new here, but I think I'll
stick around for a while.

Back to the swamps -

It turns out it's not as "yikes-y" as it could have been. I just
updated the software from 4.7 to 4.7.2. . .and for some
inexplicable reason everything is peachy keen now. I can now
specify the measures to be bounced.
**********
To specify there is 2 solutions :
1/Just setup the left & Right Locator & press CYCLE mode.
2/ When u press BOUNCE, there is a window who sk u from measure ??? to
measure ??? and Format etc...

I don't understand it either, but I'm *happy*. My froggies are now
singing "Down by the old mill stream."

Thanks to *everyone* for the help! I'm new here, but I think I'll
  stick around for a while.
