VSL/EXS/sample hell

Message posted by max Richter <max.richter@...>:

i have a scary mystery probem with my exs library...

My VSL library, which makes up most of my samples, have stopped working -
they won't load at all.

The rest of the library (ie the emagic ones and others etc) load fine.

i've run exs manager (but not the latest) to re link - no joy.

Since I suddenly find myself unable to load songs (which include VSL stuff)
I'm currently working on, I thought I would try to open the songs without
them automatically loading the samples - i seem to remember there is a pref
button for this somewhere - but I can't find it!!!

i'm on 10.4.8/twin 2GIG G5/4GB ram btw running version 7.2

any thoughts very much appreciated here...

You must have done *something* to make this happen - perhaps a system
update or maybe even your directory is corrupt. Do you have
DiskWarrior or any drive repair app?

EXSManager should work - when you say "no joy" - what exactly happens?

Have you tried posting at the VSL forums?

when my disk was about to die I could only copy VERY quickly the files to another drive
without time to worry about trees and file linking. If you know where your individual
samples are and you know where your exs instument files are you should be able to relink
things by hand without too much trouble.
Use the <f> find function of the OS to locate individual samples. Or do you have problems
with the instrument files? You need to locate them in the same fashion. Then you can
create aliases <l> and drag the aliases into the instrument folder, which is inside library/
application support/logic. thie library folder can be both in the users files or the main
library folder.
disk repair doesn't help you unless your disk is damaged. the disk utility does a good job
at repairing trees etc. otherwise you may look into "drive genius".
I read a lot here about exs manager but I don't understand the use of it. I think it is more
important to know exactly where your stuff is.

all the best

But you have been in advanced mode, yes? Then it should be enough to
know the disk where your stuff is. ESX manager finds all your
instruments and samples on a whole disk in minutes.

Thanks Jurgen, but that recording is very weak.
I was there in Hiroshima and the sound is deep and heavy.
Unfortunately I didn't have sound equipment at the time.
I'm hoping to find one that sounds like the bell up close.

Great collection, but the bell sound is very weak.
The sound up close is truly amazing.

Of course I tried the Goolge search before coming to EXS.
Your sarcasm is not appreciated Jurgen.

If anyone can recommend a site, I'd much appreciate.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
