bonjour"

i am a non young (44 years old) student in the musical informatic class of the "conservatoire national de musique de caen-france" (3ht year)
a few month ago i bought a wind controller (wx5 yamaha) .... recently i tried it with the EXS24 and i have (we have in the class) a BIG problem with #c11
we created a "new instrument" cabled to a transformer to transform each #cc11 into #cc7....... the transformer is cabled to the exs24
all is ok when i play the wx5 i see the fader moving and the sound is good (of course i put everything via velocity to zero in EXS24 parameters).... well if i
play without recording all is ok ...No latency > if i record ,during the recording, the sound is good !
 > if i listen the track after recording everything is inaudible and "seems" to be cause of all those #cc11....

i thank about a latency problem but why no problem during recording ?? or playing without recording ???

i spoke about this problem on the EXS24 list and i tried to put the transformer between physical input ans sequencer.... but it's the same thing....

so what is the problem ??? AW8 latency ???
why that difference between recording (no problem) and playing (problem)
could you think for a total gestion of #cc11 into the EXS24

please don't forget the "wind player" and their too much #cc11 !!

our configuration PC 700 512MGORAM
                                AW8 LAP

sorry for my bad english

best regards from france

denis

hi -
interesting problem.
i am a wx5 player. i never used it with the exs cause that is not my
priority, and i have not tried or checked, but is it not possible to send
cc07 directly from the wx? something to do with all those tiny switches?
then you got no transformer problem. or have i completely misunderstood the
situation. i won't have time to look into it till probably after the
weekend, but feel welcome to contact me privately if you like.

as soon as i can i will look at my set up. and it would be interesting to
know what you people are doing there.

peace,
g.

yes you can send directly #cc7 but the result is very different !! and nothing can replace #cc11 (its name "expression" is a very good name) i always switch my wx to send a fix velocity (100) and a variable expression

the problem is not a transformer one ... but the result of this transformer i.e multiple #cc7 for each note !!!
and i am quite sure that is a aw8 latency problem
we made today some tests withe audiomedia 3 and the result is best
but i wait for M.Haydn answer !!!

Excuse me for jumping in on this topic without knowing what you've been
discussing before. But how do you mean that your audio card (Audiowerk8 and
Audiomedia are audio cards, right???) could affect midi data? I mean, you're
talking about the AW8's latency as the problem, but that would only affect
the time lag between recording (or applying f/x to) an *audio* signal and
hearing it. AFAIK it can by no means affect midi data by introducing
multiple cc-events. Which midi interface do you use?

Or did I misunderstand you completely?

dear Bjorn and all the others !!
no unless !! midi data affect audio card !
well : with my "french english" i'll try to explain me !
why wind controller work very well with expander (for example JV series or yamaha vl70m) : because those expanders directly recognize #cc11
what about EXS24 : there is no implementation for #cc11...(can see that in the #cc exs24 list). so you must transform each #cc11 into #cc7 ..... it's like you play always with the output volume ESX24 fader .... and here no more midi data but audio parameters ...Bishop says (09/08/01 20:43) :"but is it not possible to send cc07 directly from the wx? " yes but if you do that you can see that your ESX volume fader start with one value and don't move after ; only with the next note on ... with #cc11 this fader always move and THAT give you realism in each classical and orchestral sound (listen to my short mp3 file http://www.freedrive.com user : ddm14 - pass : jasmin - mendelshon.mp3)
now the difference between aw8 and audiomedia : no dsp on aw8 .... some dsp on am3)
all that are amatory hypothesis !! only emagic stuff can answer.... i am ready to go to emagic with my WX5 to find the good solution wich seem to be in the #cc11 implementation into the EXS

just before going on hollidays 2 weeksi made new tests this morning with AM3
the result is better .... some problems only with very short notes

For emagic : Just say me that there is no more problem with EMI 2/6 usb card
and wind controller and i buy one !!!
