How to write keynote and loop info to samples?

How to write keynote and loop info to samples?

2001-11-20 by marc.verhoeven@quicknet.nl

Does anybody know a solution for this:
I'm using several softwaresamplers (EXS and Reason etc). It's not possible to exchange their patches, but both are able to automap-samples.
The AIFF-format holds info about Keynote (Basenote) and Looppoints. You can set them in programs like Peak and SoundHack, but it would be very nice if you could have for instance EXS24 to write the Zone information to the Samples; would safe a lot of working converting. (and maybe have a convert samples to AIFF as an extra step)
Alternatively: something like: add Keynote to Sample-Filename would sure help too.
Any idea's? mac or windows, stuff like this can be done under VPC.
Thanks, marc

If I understand you right, you want to take a EXS-AIFF combination and put
the looping information that is stored in the Zone and write it onto the
sample itself.

How useful is this though? Usually that information is already there,
embedded on the AIFF itself, although the EXS does directly look at this
info. The EXS DOES look at it when it's importing the sample; it will take
the embedded info and write that information onto the Zone. However, if you
change the loop points in the Zone (not common), it's not going to write
onto the AIFF, no. But that's sort of an unusual situation

Not sure what you mean by this. If you mean Root Key, or sometimes called
Unity Note, same as above.

Right.

Errr... That is information is only there if somebody put it there. Like: I make a EXS24 patch of some homemade samples, I set the KeyNote/Base Note/etc ; and keyrange. Suppose it works out nice, sooner or later I'll want to use it in some other sampler. Since EXS24 doesn't have any export option, I'll have to make the whole thing again.

The EXS DOES look at it when it's importing the sample; it will take

No offense, but I guess you never make samplerpatches yourself.

Suppose: The Key-Note of a sample, MySample is placed in the Zone at G3. The name could be changed to MySample G3.aif, which would be a great help converting by hand to another Samplers format. And Reason can auto map samples according to there names

I mean the the Key where the sample with be played at original pitch. FYI it's called pretty different :
SoundHack: Base Note. Peak : Root Key. Logic: Key Note

OK, that's what I thought you meant.

No, we do, but I find that people don't export out of EXS that much, based
on the amount of requests to do so. That's the type of automation we like
to build into Translator, so it's something we have our finger to the pulse on.

Makes sense. You might see some support for this in Translator shortly.
Thanks for the suggestion.

On Mac, there is an auto split function in the EXS24 called " Auto map by
root key"
igor

OK, Thanks, give some hope for the future.
My problem is that over the last few years I did my own patches in Unity, VSamp EXS24 and Reason.
Now I'm using EXS24 for composing and Reason for live-playing, so I really need something that's converting my patches easier.
