Control Amplitude via pitch

Does anyone have any thoughts about the best way to set up an instrument where the amplitude can be controlled via the pitch wheel. It's for strings, to control dynamics. But it needs to be independent of the volume, so I can still set the overall mix level. I do this on my kurz, using controller #11, expression. Works perfectly, musically that is. And it leaves #7 free. Darcy
