Create and tie a splitter to that instrument (connecting the port number to
the same instrument number) and record all actions on the splitter track in
the arrange.

EXS24 automation

2001-11-30 by Arvid Solvang

If I want to automate the cutoff frequensy on the EXS24 filter I hyperdraw
CC89 on the sequence in the arrangewindow.
This works OK.

If I then insert an EQ to the same track CC89 will then become EQ-level for
band two???

My workaround is to send the EXS24 instrument to a bus and add the eq there,
but this must be a bug IMO.

Really? Are you sure this would change the way the audio instrument strip would
respond to incoming cc info? Certainly the assignment of cc numbers to the
various parameters of the instruments and of any plugins on the inserts wouldn't
be changed by this.

Yes, CC info is recorded on these tracks and works. You may be doing some
stuff out of my domain of habit, but this has worked for me whenever the
instrument track flakes on plugin automation. I typically use the Hyperedit
for this sort of thing, so I don't know quite how your situation will
respond to the information you are sending. Generally, I nudge the
automation controller during record to identify the controller data, then
automate transitions in Hyperedit. -Jer

No, but there can be other advantages using this way of working.
- when cabling the channel splitter to different virtual instruments you can
control them from within e.g. one Hyper editor for better overview. This is
also very handy for controlling various virtual drumsamplers (with different
effect settings and routings) from within one matrix editor. Midi channel
decides which instrument is adressed.
- The recording of automation data can be done from one track in arrange
that's linked to the channel splitter and not directly to the instrument.
Within an arrangement with a lot of virtuals this can mean the difference
reaching the CPU limit or not. When the virtual instrument is the active
track realtime CPU is used to make it realtime playable. When the channel
splitter is the active track no realtime CPU for live playing is needed for
the instrument.

It's not a bug, it's a feature, but could also be called a limitation. It's
in the nature of Logic. The slots of audio objects use the following CC
assignment:

1 - CC64 to 79
2 - CC80 to 95
3 - CC96 to 111
4 - CC112 to 127

When there's only one plug or instrument in the first slot all CC's are
available for this plug. When there's also a plug in slot 2 CC's from 80 on
are used for that slot. Arvid's EQ problem could be solved by inserting the
EQ-plug in slot 3 of 4, so CC89 is still available for EXS.
