Tuning...

Tuning...

2002-02-06 by gridlockeduk

Can anyone explain to me why when I use EXS 24 it always changes it's
tuning?! It is really annoying me as it is tuned differently
everytime and has nothing to do with the tuning parameters actually
witin EXS 24. What this means is that I generally cannot use EXS 24
with any soft synths simply because they are not in tune with each
other.

It's a problem everyone has to live with, unfortunately. The
software-oscillators within most software synths and samplers need time to
warm up. It's best that after you boot your computer that you wait 10
minutes or so to allow the oscillators to stabilize.

Nowadays, with 1-2mHz processors, the CPU is finally getting to the point
that some of these tuning errors can finally be addressed. But so far, no
one (as far as I know) has coded a really good algorithm to cut down on the
warm up time.

you're awesome Garth!

You almost had me there, with all the nonsense I've seen posted in
forums....but then I saw who wrote it.

Only someone with a "Chad" parameter in their software would come up with
this response!

Even better!

I'm really hoping that Apple can catch up with these new 2 megahertz
processors that can ensure stable tuning....My work is suffering without this
capability.

I believe Logic support might be able to help. :-)))

Bye bye...

Actually Eric, I want you to show the faster processors to the drummers who
made Backbeat, so they can learn to tune the snares faster....:-)))))

is it absolute fact that this particular issue is exclusively
associated with pirated versions of exs? id hate to think a fully
paid up user was getting this kind of advice! hilarious though
these posts have been :-)

re oscillator warm up times - virtually recreating the curtis chip in
all its glory perhaps wasnt such a good idea

Reminds me of the famous LA hot-shot "producer" from 70's who -to impress the
clients- told the brass section after a great take, "Something just isn't
right...let's try it an octave faster, ok guys?"

All the brass players looked at each other knowingly, and said, "Sure...no
problem."

The next take they played the same part an octave higher and twice as fast as
the rest of the band.

That was about the last time anyone heard of that producer as I remember....

ROTFLMAO!!!!!

I have met quite a few producers like this...

Mind you, I have also met a brass section whom I presented with complete
parts for a session, and then I was told that they only played in Bb....

Because it was the only key they felt in tune in.....

Can't win!!

From what I remember yes. I think I put a reply from Markus about this in
this or the next version of my FAQ. from memory Markus put an invite on the
LUG list when quite a few ppl complained about it for any registered user to
go directly to him with a bug report to be looked into. Noone got back to
him. I tried it on my logic following the steps of people that had reported
it and couldnt reproduce it...
