No, you're not - this is what the EXS seems to find "intelligent"... It
simply deletes the .exs file only.
IMO the EXS's file handling is still a bit weak.
For example, for this operation there should be some database sort of thing,
offering these options:
- Delete EXS patch only. No further menu, it would just delete the patch (as
it is right now in V5).
- Delete patch and samples (that would be V4 behaviour). When doing this a
warning message with a bunch of suboptions should come up:
     - Delete really? Yes/No.
     - Search for other instruments using the same audiofiles first? Yes/No.
And another suboption then:
            - Search in the following folder/subfolders. <file browser box
pops up>.

Sure, the search option might take a long while, but a) it'd only be
optional and b) it'd would be the safest way when reorganizing your sample
folders.

The best thing would be having a specialized file handling tool only for the
EXS (could even be a completely external program) which would have an
explorer/finder like tree structure with your EXS patches displayed on the
left and the used samples displayed on the right. Once you click on a patch
the used audiofiles would be shown.
Such a tool could also handle all the various search options.

Sascha

i was thinking a few more stronger words than weak! ya know, i
can live with the hassle of manually deleting audio files if i have
to, what really pi**es me off is the cheek of actually lying in the
manual about what can and cant be done! oh i know, its an
oversight....but by the time it hits my studio its a bald faced lie. a
bit like telling us theres a pdf on the v5 cd regarding the new exs
facilities...uhhh....no there isnt.
heres another thing which cost me several wasted hours. i spent
time setting up a bunch of new key commands only to power up
the next day to find none of them had been stored in the
preferences like they used to be. it seems we have to tell logic to
store them now. i didnt see any info about this in the new
addendum either, even though they have a section about
preferences! the info may be posted somewhere but i sure
havent seen it yet.

little things like this make me ever more curious about the
competition....

There's a menu command that "saves" your key commands. --DOH... I learned
this the hard way as well. You'd think, if I set the keys up, I'd want them
to stay that way by default. But no, I have to say, "yes you idiot
computer... I meant what I did when I spent all that time customizing my key
commands." I was a bit put off. Point is, you CAN save them so they will be
there next time. -Jer

... which reminds me: is the exs-instrument file-format available
somewhere? Some 3rd party apps are able to convert e.g. Akai to EXS,
so at least these companies must have access to the file format...
