Panning of individual Zones in editor...

I don't get it. I'm trying to assign separate pan positions for several "zones" in the instrument editor, and no matter what I try everything is panned dead center. I've tried loading the instrument (from the Percussive Adventures Akai CD=-ROM) as a mono and stereo EXS-24 with no luck. Does anyone know how to do this? The 'instrument' I'm trying to work with contains 5 or 6 tom samples each mapped to one note in thier zone range, so theoretically it should work. Help!
