Akai conversion wav corruptions(LAWP)

Akai conversion wav corruptions(LAWP)

2001-01-20 by David Benus

Hello,

I just bought a very expensive Akai1000 brass library, and I am
getting corrupted wav files, both when auditioning the wavs from
within EXS's conversion program and after converting and opening up
the instrument in the EXS24. I checked with company and they say
that their files are 100% error free, and that the problem is with
Logic/EXS. I believe that this may be true, as the EXS24 is new and
may still have some bugs and this particular sound library was
completely and very well reviewed in several different publications
(that's why I bought it).

Has anyone else run into reputable sound libraries with corrupted
Akai CD-ROM files showing up either in the EXS conversion page and/or
after conversion to EXS?

I am hoping that someone who has had some problems like mine can tell
me if, after buying either Translator or CDxtract, you have been able
to cleanly convert the problem instruments with either of those
programs. Before I buy one or the other, I would like to hear
from some of you who have had experience with one (or even better,
both) of these 3rd party conversion programs.

Thanks,

David Benus

You may send me any suspected corrupted .wav files, and I can check them
out. If anyone catches Translator making a bad .wav file with EXS
conversions, they can send a report file and we will fix the program within
24 hours.

Just a note about the guys at Rubber Chicken: Again, I don't work for these
guys, but I can't help saying good things about them. They offer a level of
customer service never before seen among any other software developer in my
personal experience. They have addressed EVERY concern I have brought to
their attention, always within 24 hours. This is no exaggeration. I only
wish I could call up Emagic and get a personal call or e-mail usually the
same day and, furthermore, receive a patch that, for example, created a
hierarchical directory structure in the instrument menu. Obviously, this is
a pipe dream. But, with respect to Rubber Chicken's focus, it is a reality.
These guys are in it for the long haul, and it would take an act of God to
knock them off course. Interestingly, I bought Translator before it was
compatible with Virtual PC or supported the EXS, using the logic (no pun
intended) that if I got a cheap PC (which I did) and converted my libraries
to AKAI, I could import the instruments into the EXS on my Mac without
losing the sample mapping--a totally plausible idea. But, to my amazement,
Translator became compatible with Virtual PC in the advent of VPC-4 and,
even more amazing, quickly included support for the EXS24--without charging
a penny for an upgrade since I paid for my original copy (V1.0 build 22).
Now it's at 1.4 (I have build 3) and gets better with every build.

Note: I was not paid or asked to say these things. I just think the RC guys
kick ass and set a lofty standard that I only wish other developers would
aspire to. Have a nice day.
