Weighted Keys

Weighted Keys

2001-01-23 by monterey3@hotmail.com

Sorry for throwing this question out here, but I'm not on any other
list.

I really like the sounds of the Yamaha S-80, but it has weighted keys
and I've never used weighted keys for writing Trance. Is there
anyone here who has used a weighted keys as a master synth for
writing Trance music? If so, I'd like to hear your feedback. Thanks!

Regards,
Mark

it's more like a piano....I came from pianos to synths and eventually got
used to the lightweight plasticky feeling. Then I did a show for 14 months
with a weighted keyboard as the master- whoa my little fingers were 'out of
shape' at first (because you need more energy/weight/strength to play
weighted keys- it's more physical like the piano- ) but once I was back used
to it, I decided never to go back to not-weighted keyboards ever ever again:
so I got one. I'ts heavier to travel, if you're going to be moving it around
but I love it. You can get more expression out of them I think because you
can bang it a bit harder and get more dynamic range - I mean velocity- it's
easier to control-
however if you're just inputting notes it;s just like a non weighted
keyboard only better.,,,,have you tried the E4 K by Emu, it's semi-weighted
OK rant off
cheers-
Barb

If you like the S80 sounds, why not choose the CS6X, which is more of a
dedicated dance machine, it has basically the same engine, but not a
weighted keyboard. [though I do like the feel of it.] As a bonus it has
more knobs and controllers, a wicked arpeggiator [128 patterns], and the
phrase sampler would be very handy for live gigs. I'm more than happy
with mine, and with the VL150 and AN150 plg boards, it's really quite a
monster :)

Hmmm, I started life as a classical piano player and have been into synths
for about 20 years. My take on this is that for playing piano sounds I
prefer a weighted action but for synth style sounds I prefer a synth style
keyboard action. I see them both as two different instruments. When I have
to play synth from a weighted keyboard it feels strange to me but if that
was all I had I'm sure I would get used to it over time....

I'm using a roland a-33 as my main keyboard, the keys are semi-weighted.
I'd choose weighted over non-weighted any day, but that's just personal.

we have just finished some trance tracks

all of these track used exs24
