EXS24, Halion or Kontakt for orchestral sounds ?

EXS24, Halion or Kontakt for orchestral sounds ?

2002-07-21 by herge2us

Just like most of you, I was disapointed when I heard that Apple was
buying Emagic. I am not an expert like many of you and still I have
invested quite a lot of money with Emagic (Logic 5, EMI2/6, AMT8,
AW8) and was planning to buy EXS24 before July 1st. Even though I
will not, in the near future, move to Cubase or Sonar, I am asking
myself which soft sampler to acquire. Possibly one of you could
advice me on this.

I am using a P4 with 2.2a and 1 Gb of Ram. I am using mostly
orchestral instruments (like Miroslav on Akai etc...)and I like a
software that has the minimum of bugs and a good integration with
Emagic. Quality of translated sounds is also important.

Thank you in advance for all your answers !

personally, I have a bit of a problem with setting up EXS for
expressive sounds because of the current lack of a velocity-crossfade
facility. I'd like to be able to set up a string set played two
different ways and have some way of playing the "mix" by velocity or
controller.

At the moment you don't seem to ba able to do this with EXS, except
by setting up a two different patches on two different EXS's, and
then using the environment to construct a splitter and velocity
remapper, or straight and inverted volume controls, and once you've
tweeked that setup, you can't save it as a single EXS patch. :-(

/Presumably/ when EXS imports velocity-crossfaded patches it turns
them into velocity splits? ... which is really not the same thing.

Then again, a new version of EXS is supposed to be included in the
5.2 upgrade pencilled in for next month, and they are supposed to be
adding individual outputs, so maybe they are also adding xfade
facilities, dunno.
