Nothin' but double CPUs now!

Nothin' but double CPUs now!

2002-08-13 by Ned Bouhalassa

New Macs are coming out today. Looks like all Macheads will be seeing
double soon!

PS: After having read EP's comments about his double blues, I'm not feeling
too excited... yet.

Have you folks realized that the 2 new flagship G4s can only be
configured to run under OS X.2 and beyond? As I understand it, and I
hope I'm wrong, the new blazing boys will not properly boot an OS9.x
partition.

Can anyone confirm this, as my info is coming from web
security/graphics/network guys?

If we have just managed to get things ironed out under 9.1 the
majority of the stuff we're running has not been ported to OS X.

I, too, want the new machines for plug instances, even on a G4 dual
500 w/ 640 megs of ram find very limited use of plugins for a full
mix. (for the record, an ultra 160 scsi chain has bumped my track
count way up, more than 64 tracks, and the disk i/o led in the system
performance meter way down.)

New machines may not be worth it yet... I'm interested if any lugger
has info on this...

Well, you are the 2nd person who has mentioned this, so maybe it's true...

Argh! Does noone ever read my posts? Just read the Apple Store page, select
a powermac, go to the BTO page and read under the OS "Both Mac OS X & Mac OS
9 are installed on your new Power Mac G4 (Mac OS X v.10.2 Jaguar, is the
default boot-up operating system). Choose optional languages other than the
country default language, if needed."

The 10.2 only thing was a RUMOR, and is unlikely to happen until at least
the G5 appears if it does at all.

Right you are, bro. I should be asleep. It's obvious that I need it. ;)

There was talk that the new 1U rack servers from Apple only work under OSX.xx
However, that's NOT the case with the new G4's. They all come with
OSX v10.2 & OS9.2
Just go over to Apple.com and see for yourself. All the tech specs are there.

Quite frankly, I think all these rumours are total horseshit .........

Not completely horse shit, Most people are referring to the
upcoming G5 chip architecture available later this fall, it quite
simply may be incapable of handling old OS 9 code........
especially if Apple start acquiring their chipsets from IBM........

Hopefully people some of our favorite apps will be ported over to
OS X by then anyways..................
